Setting - Rosetta, Egypt 1799 --- Sent by his sovereign, King James of England, Gavin DeFoe, the Earl of Blackwell, and his trusted friend Connor were in Egypt trying to locate a crew of excavators to unearth a valuable artifact and untold riches that both King James and Napoleon Bonaparte were seeking. Napoleon had pressed into labor most of the excavating crews so Gavin was forced to negotiating with Willie Tuggle, his last hope. Having to pay double the fee, the Earl was not pleased to see this decrepit looking crew in which there didn't seem to be a man younger than 50 years old. Gavin wasn't happy, but even less so having to wait for the leader, `Mac' to show up and to discover that `Mac' was in actuality MacKenzie --- tall, statuesque and of all things, a woman! Gavin wanted nothing to do with a woman - he'd vowed never to trust another woman as long as he lived after marrying a woman, betrayed, then losing both her and his 3 year old son. For the last six years he'd built a wall around his heart and though the very sight of this woman caused his blood to boil, he was determined to fight that attraction by being as obnoxious as he could - and this he did well!
Mac, had never before let a man affect her but one glance at this darkly handsome man and the attraction was both immediate and intense! That glance had heated her body and caused her normally unflappable mind to wander to the wild side. The dangers of the desert, and the dangers of being caught by Napoleon were secondary as compared to the dangers of succumbing to the tall dark and handsome earl. Knowing well the dangers, Mac was still determined to break through the wall guarding his heart, at the cost of losing her own.
This was a fast read and somewhat suspenseful.

BEYOND MY DREAMS, takes us back to the world of archaeology in Egypt. For those who wondered about Gavin, the Earl of Blackwell, we met in Shadow of the Sun, now he has his on story.
Gavin cannot bring himself to trust any woman. Their lies the problem when he gets a guide to help find the Pharaohs tomb. He hires the best guide in all of Egypt. Never realizing that it is a She.
Mackenzie is the best of guide that can be found when searching for the tombs in Egypt. Now that her father( Willie Tuggle) has gotten too old to do much anymore, she feels that it is her place to take care of him and all the rest of his crew. Although she is English she has spent most of her life living with her father on board his ship or in Egypt. Unbeknownst to her, Willie accepts the job from Gavin. Even though he knows of the hard ship that the French will cast on anyone not digging for them, this is the reason Mackenzie is set against it knowing that the French are also searching for the Pharaohs Tomb.
After meeting Gavin though, she sets her mind to proving to him once and for all that not all women are like his late wife and untrustworthy. She is determined to find the tomb just as she promised she would.
But can she win Gavin's trust?
Beyond my Dreams, is another great novel by Tammy Hilz. She has a unique way of pulling her readers into the stories and I for one wanted the book to never end.

I started this book, but never really got into in. Maybe I didn't have the time or wasn't in the right mood, but I actually didn't even finish it. It was slow and if a book doesn't get my attention right away, I have trouble with it. I could tell right away that I didn't like Mac. Don't like women who act like men. Gavin might have been okay with someone else. Other people have liked this book, but I put it down and didn't want to pick it up again.

Five thousand years ago, King Menes united upper and lower Egypt and created a unique crown--the pshent. According to legend, whoever holds that crown can rule the world. And one man, more than any other, believes he is up to the challenge. Napoleon Bonaparte occupies Egypt and has hired every crew to search the deserts and find him the unique crown. But Engishman Gavin McLeod, Earl of Blackwell, intends to find the crown first and return it to King George. He hires the last digging crew available, not knowing that its captain is the beautiful and very female Mackenzie (Mac) Tuggle.
Mac has devoted her life to taking care of her father and his aging crew--the men Gavin has hired. But she doesn't know if she can even take care of herself where Gavin is concerned. The physical attraction is obvious, and mutual, but Gavin guards his heart with strong walls. He was betrayed before, by a woman, and swears he'll never let it happen again. At any rate, Gavin is an Aristocrat, more comfortable in the drawing rooms of London. And Mac loves Egypt. Although she's English, she wants to spend her life in the exotic land of the Pharaohs.
In an exciting adventure that takes them through the ruins of ancient Egypt and the streets of revolutionary France, Mac and Gavin battle the French, nature, and their growing love for one another. Each knows that the other is wrong for them, but neither can keep away.
Author Tammy Hilz has written a compelling and fast-moving adventure. The sexual attraction between Gavin and Mac sizzles and Gavin makes a wonderful wounded hero. But Hilz excels in her descriptions of action, combining physical danger with the growing emotional risks that her protagonists put themselves in. Hilz fans will delight in seeing returning characters Jake and Sarah from SHADOW OF THE SUN but this book definitely belongs to Gavin and especially the delightful Mac.
This is a good one.
