Alisha Sampson reluctantly lets her best friend talk her into having her fortune told while on vacation in New Orleans, thinking it's only harmless fun. When the voodoo woman tells her she must return to the past to keep a man from dying, Alisha thinks the woman is crazy. When she steps out of the store,however, she finds herself transported back to 1881! Thinking it's all an elaborate hoax put on for her benefit, Alisha's amusement quickly turns to terror when she finds herself chased by the police. Apparently, she looks like a woman named Andrea Knight who has swindled money from the police chief's brother in an attempt to pay off her father's gambling debts. The police chief is corrupt and is anxious to catch Andrea--and kill her-- before she reveals what she knows about his crooked business dealings. In her flight from the police, Alisha ends up in the courtyard of Rand Kincaid. Rand is a devastatingly attractive man who seems willing to help her, even though he thinks she's lying when she insists she's not Andrea. He agrees to hide her and pay her father's debts in return for her services as his housekeeper for a year. Wary at first of his intentions, Alisha agrees when she realizes that the real Andrea's father may be killed if she doesn't accept Rand's help. Rand starts falling in love with Alisha and soon Alisha returns his feelings, although she knows they have no future. Not sure exactly whose life she's supposed to save and with only three weeks to fulfill her purpose in 1881 or she won't be able to return to her own time, Alisha desperately tries to avoid being captured by the police. As the three weeks go by, Alisha realizes she will be leaving the love of her life behind when she returns to 1994. Ultimately, she has to choose between the life she's always known and the love she's found with Rand. Rosalyn Alsobrook spins a story of suspense and romance sure to please all her readers! I am so sorry I wasted time and money on this book. Fortunately, it wasn't much of either. Time travel romance, by its very nature, requires a stretch of the imagination and suspension of logic. However, this was too much. Her clothes went back in time with her "soul" but not her body? Please. It took her well over a day to figure out that she wasn't "wearing" her normal body? Again, please. Pathetic book.
