5.0 out of 5 stars incredibly helpful during one of lifes toughest times
The death of my father was my first experience in the journey of grief associated with death. This book was given to me at the time of his death, and although there were a lot of tears to accompany the reading, it made me realize that I was not going crazy. It does not have a religious foundation, but deals more with your feelings, the stages of grief and how to help...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very vague advice
Since my husband died I've read every book on grief I could get my hands on .This was the worst .Too general and not enough down to earth advice .I would never recommend this book .Spend your money on "Widow to Widow "

The death of my father was my first experience in the journey of grief associated with death. This book was given to me at the time of his death, and although there were a lot of tears to accompany the reading, it made me realize that I was not going crazy. It does not have a religious foundation, but deals more with your feelings, the stages of grief and how to help with recovery. When my stepson was murdered two years ago I reread the book and it was again very very helpful. I encourage everyone who is in need of understanding of the grieving process after a death, to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You from the bottom of my heart, August 22, 2000
This review is from: Beyond Grief: A Guide for Recovering from the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
After the death of my father, I read many grief books and I was extremely disappointed. My aunt gave me Beyond Grief and I was so pleased. It is truly the best book I've read on this subject. Ms. Staudacher's book is exceptionally written and provides immediate comfort. Beyond grief gave me a sense of peace and understanding that I haven't been able to get at this most challenging time of my life. I have since purchased her book for friends and survivors of loved ones who are eternally grateful as well. I am looking forward to reading A Time To Grieve.

This book makes it possible to understand one's own grief without having to surrender either emotion or intelligence. Elegantly and accessibly written. I have given many copies to friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars a caring resource for difficult times, February 17, 1998

I was given this book after the death of my parents. Staudacher's down-to-earth advice helped me process my grief. It is the kind of advice a good and knowledgeable friend would offer, and is written in that kind of tone.

I have since given away half a dozen copies to friends going through similar pain, and they have all found it helpful.
I've read several other books on grieving; this one is still my favorite recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covers Loss from many situations, accident, murder etc, October 22, 2000

This review is from: Beyond Grief: A Guide for Recovering from the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
I originally bought this book for a friend who had lost her son in a tragic car accident. She told me it helped her tremedously and still keeps the book out on her counter between her kitchen and dining room, the pages are well worn. Since then I always give this book to friends or family recently expereincing loss. the reviews from all are the same, each one states it hit right on what they were thinking or going thruough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent supporting book for the recently bereaved!, June 30, 1998

I bought this book for my Mother after the sudden death of my Father a few weeks ago. It dealt with the feelings and the business items that must be dealt with after a close loved one dies. Also, Carol speaks in different sections directly to the different types of death, which I thought was very insightful, since not all deaths occur the same way(ie: accidents, suicides, etc). I read some of it myself and would highly recommend both this and her other book of meditations(which I also purchased)for survivors of the loss of a parent, spouse, or child.

I found this book in the library after the death of my mother. It became a vital source of intelligent, gentle reassurance and guidance as I struggled through the grieving process. I've since given the book to many many friends who have lost loved ones, and have returned to it myself on occasion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Grief by Barbara Staudecker, February 21, 2008
This review is from: Beyond Grief: A Guide for Recovering from the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
This book helped me with the loss of my wife in a fall. And retrospectively with the loss of my dad in my youth. Barbara comes with her own experience and it shows in this work. I have pass on this book to many people over the years since my wifes death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Grief, December 28, 2007

Would recommend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one. I have given it to several people in the past, and they have all commented how much it helped them in the grieving process. What makes the book so helpful is it breaks it into categories of "loss of a child", a parent, etc.
