About the Author

USA TODAY BEST SELLING AUTHOR!

AMAZON TOP 10 AUTHOR IN ACTION & ADVENTURE!

USA Today bestselling author Luke Romyn was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1975. His life since reads like something out of his novels: heavily entrenched in personal trauma, action, thrills, and adventure.

For over two decades, Luke has worked in the security industry; from bouncing in some of Australia's roughest pubs and nightclubs to protecting Mickey Mouse and the Disney crew from the overzealous jaws of tenacious toddlers. He's been bodyguard for celebrities internationally and chased feral pigs and snakes from jungle sets on Steven Spielberg productions. Luke has traveled the globe and spent time in some of the most amazing locations the world has to offer.

This experience fuels the Australian writer's ever-expansive imagination, and he pours it into his novels, combining fact with fiction, history with fantasy, delivering engrossing action-thrillers which leave fans gasping for more. Luke's quick wit has seen his social media following explode, and he is currently one of the most prolific social media celebrities in Australia, with several hundred thousand followers across the internet.

Publishing his first book, The Dark Path, in 2009 saw it voted in the top 10 horror novels of that year, even though Luke denies ever intending the novel to be classed as horror. Luke Romyn is now one of the most popular indie authors in the ever-growing eBook market and personally completes everything from cover art to final formatting, working tirelessly with editors so as to refine the best stories possible for his readers. The results are international bestsellers you're certain to love diving into. Hundreds of thousands of readers can't be wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imagination to the Nth power! April 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Having read Luke Romyn's two previous works, I already knew BEYOND HADES would be well written and entertaining. What I wasn't aware of was that I was supposed to strap myself in while reading the book.

From the gripping prologue which immediately seizes your attention, Romyn hurls you into an endless vortex of action through unexpected dimensions which leaves you trying to catch your breath. Where many have tried to create the next fantastic adventure which resulted in a remake of some past epic novel, Romyn has successfully created a series of parallel worlds the likes of which I'd never seen and he has done so seamlessly as to make the reader believe this could actually be.

If you have an active imagination, turn it on to high gear and get ready for a wild ride. If your imagination is more passive, you needn't worry as Romyn supplies his for your use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Written like it intended to be a videogame July 22, 2012
By Lane
Format:Kindle Edition
The book is 'high adrenaline' like everyone says. But not that much more really. It was just enjoyable enough to read that I finished it, but not so much that I would have paid money for it (it was free on a sale)

The characters and plot read more like a teenage-male focused video game, and the characters themselves can be quite cliche and one dimensional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adrenaline is better than caffeine April 15, 2012
By Adina
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I finally got some uninterrupted reading time last night, but it wasn't enough to finish the book. This morning, before anything else, I read the remaining chapters. No need for coffee now! It feels like I just stepped off the world's longest and most intense roller coaster, complete with mythical beasts, bloodshed, and betrayal. It's exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.

Blacklisted and The Dark Path gave me an idea of what to expect, and a new Romyn reader should probably warm up with at least one of them. Beyond Hades is simply... more. More edge, more twists, more speed, more intrigue. Buckle up and hang on, because this is the best yet from Luke Romyn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool concept, not that well written June 30, 2012
By Mike H.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Romyn had a neat concept for the book, and a pretty well developed plot, but the dialog was a little simplistic at times and some of his characters were rather cliche - especially some of the military characters.

However, it was a fun read. And while it was a little formulaic, the twist at the end made it worth it to slug through the book.

Don't expect anything complex, but it is a fun "beach read".

2.0 out of 5 stars Did not finish ... May 2, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I didn't find this book compelling enough to finish. I read to about 50% on my Kindle and gave up. One major problem for me is that the lead is practically powerless, which makes for dull reading. I like a main character who takes center stage and interacts upon it. As others have written, there is a lot of action in this book, but who cares? It's boring to me when the hero does nothing but run away, particularly while being saved by others. Throw in the fact that Talbot wasn't really a likeable character to begin with, and what's the point? A whining, useless hero does not make for good reading. Wes was much more interesting, and once he came upon the scene, I did hang around for a little longer because I liked him, but ultimately he wasn't doing much either, so I gave up. I would say this story is written with very broad strokes in all regards. Things pop in and out, nothing much sticks at all. Try it for free, or definitely read the Kindle sample before buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure who this book is aimed at February 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I think I may have bought this book by mistake. It passed my usual Kindle test of being over 500 pages long and having a high star rating but that's about it. I did persevere and made it to the end. It reads like a teen adventure novel but is full of four letter words and army type slang and constant sexual allusions, which I found unnecessary and a bit offensive. The book is pure fantasy and deals with two unlikely heroes going into four parallel worlds to save the universe from certain destruction. The inhabitants of these worlds are mostly familiar creatures and figures from Greek mythology, including Zeus and Hercules, who are portrayed as anything but God-like. Each monster is more powerful than the last, but of course predictably the heroes find ways to defeat them when all seems lost. It's pretty much a hack-and-slash romp from first to last. I'd like to say it is a spoof but it doesn't read like a tongue-in-cheek novel, it takes itself quite seriously most of the time and I found myself secretly regretting investing so much time in reading it. That said I did finish it, but not with any desire to read the sequel. I am sure there are thousands of people who like this book and it's always a matter of taste. There is nothing to really dislike, hence the 3-stars. For me it was just OK.

1.0 out of 5 stars Illogical June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started to read this book on my Kindle. I read 15% of it before it became so illogical and unbelievable that it became unreadable for me. I know that with science-fiction the reader has to suspend some belief, but with this book the reader not only has to suspend all belief in the story, but create a system of denial as well. I am very happy that I did not have to pay for this book. If I had paid for it, I would feel totally cheated.

USA TODAY BEST SELLING AUTHOR!

AUTHOR RANKED TOP 10 IN ACTION ADVENTURE ON AMAZON!

A terrifying storm lashed Sydney's North Shore on June 21st, 1975. Boats were swamped and jetties smashed in what some claim was the worst storm to hit the coast for four decades.

In the midst of the chaos, Luke Romyn's parents battled to get to a hospital to birth their baby boy. Normally their idyllic island cottage was a near-paradise; on this night the journey to the mainland in their tiny boat seemed like a passage through Hell. Their son was born near midnight, but part of the storm never left him.

When Luke reached fifteen years of age his father was killed while working in Fiji, leaving Luke and his mother alone. At times, the only things to get Luke through his grief were the stories playing out in his head, endless fantastical tales of lands both distant and near, with characters who would protect him from any tragedy.

At eighteen, Luke began working in nightclubs as a bouncer. Unbeknownst to him, this was simply the first step on a trek which would dictate much of his life from that point on. For over two decades since, Luke has worked in the security industry; from bouncing in some of Australia's roughest pubs and nightclubs to protecting Mickey Mouse and the Disney crew from the overzealous jaws of tenacious toddlers. He's been bodyguard for celebrities internationally and chased feral pigs and snakes from jungle sets on Steven Spielberg productions.
