Probably the best chill CD I've heard, and I don't usually like chillout much. Not many artists can produce very good trance sounds AND chillout to go along with it. The album is more chillout than trance, but there are a few really upbeat melodies like Tantrix, Highlander, and Transformation. The vocals on the album are very ethereal and easy on the brain.

Alamanana is a rearrangement of their classic track Summersault. Summersault appears on the UK version of this album instead of Alamanana. I think the original is a tad better. Paul Oakenfold used it in his DJ sets.

If you like some trancey sounds with your chill, take one of these and call me in the morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entrancing Chillout..., January 9, 2005

This review is from: Beyond the Horizon (Dig) (Audio CD)
Much like almost any album, Tastexperience's Beyond the Horizon is one best enjoyed with an open mind. However, with opening tracks such as 'Child of Life' and 'Herb Boy', most people will probably not have difficulty just releasing whatever pent-up frustration might lie within them, and merely enjoy the music for what it is.

Notwithstanding this album's remarakable potential as an aural stress-ball, the tracks are all put together outstandingly well with a soothing, electro-vibe to them, but with enough variation within the songs to not sound repetetive. Despite what formulas for a lot of trance might dictate, redundant bass isn't always the answer to all of life's problems. What does this have to even do with trance, though? Well, not much. I suppose my basis for mentioning it, however, stems from the fact that Paul Oakenfold was a strong force in the distribution of Tastexperience's classic sound - "Summersault". A song which appeared on many of Oakenfold's mid-90s Trance sets as well as his "Resident: 2 Years of Oakenfold at Cream" and Global Underground 007: New York" CDs (both of which are compilations regarded by much of the trance community to be 'classics'). In "Child of Life" and "Alamanana", the ambience and feel of "Summersault" are strongly present, as well as sampled.

Track variation is something that sets this album apart from many others and, although it is not seamlessly mixed like a lot of other electronic albums, the blend of sounds and the placement of tracks more than makes up for this - after all, it's not a live set, and it's not a mix, either. It's a flawless experience in whatever distant shore you want to visit - it's something beyond the horizon, something that you can enjoy when you really want to, and even when you don't, this album will melt your resolve away and escape from the turmoil of life will seem like the only way out.

The coolest CD you'd want to put on your player when you want to close your eyes and unwind after a long, hard day at work.
