Biography

When the Welsh rock quintet People in Planes came upon their band name, they knew that it expressed their sound — modern yet human, with a global reach and sense of transit and adventure — and the philosophy behind the music they create. But little did they know that it would also prove to be prophetic.

Instead of rising through the often-fickle English pop music scene, People in Planes forged… Read more in Amazon's People in Planes Store

Editorial Reviews

The making of People in Planes' second album, Beyond the Horizon, reflects the band's intuition for making diverse, melodic music as they worked with four producers in seven different studios across America, England and Wales. Initial sessions with Our Lady Peace front man Raine Maida provided the creative building blocks to lead on to sessions with Queens Of The Stone age collaborators `Eleven', Panic At The Disco producer Matt Squire and finally Doves/Massive Attack producer Dan Austin. The results speak for themselves. Newsweek praises, 'Pretty Buildings', the band's long lead setup track for this album, stating, 'Hear `Pretty Buildings', the new single by Welsh band People in Planes. This ballad, rich in melody with strong, searching lyrics, shows why this group is one to watch.' --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Four Reviews? How can this be?, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Beyond the Horizon (Audio CD)
People In Planes defy classification. Post Grunge? A touch. Prog? Smatterings. Indy? God I hope not. Lacking a pigeon hole, however, may doom them to Indyland - doomed to become on of the best bands you'll never hear. I hope not. By any account, this is a dynamite CD. Mister 1 star has a point that this may be a more AOR oriented set than their first, but it's hardly a sell-out. These guys play one start to finish, tour de force, hook and lick riddled hell of a good time. I'm not one to launch into a verbose in-depth analysis. However highlights include a furious rhythm section that anchors stellar guitar, vocals (dark and moody) and weirdy keyboards-al la Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree). In fact, if you happen to be a PT devotee, POP are well worth checking out. I'm astonished by how little media attention (good or bad) this CD has received. They should dump their entire management staff. There was "No Image Available" for the cover for several days after the debut on all the major music sites. Lord knows, these guys have a hard enough time finding an audience without that kind of incompetence. Oh well. If you have a taste for the richly eclectic, this CD might be for you. I guaranty it's worth a listen.

An unbelievable mix of melody, power and beat. Compare Kingdom of Rust by The Doves. The two best bands going today.

I liked the whole album. It has good songs that don't get any coverage on the radio. I'll be looking forward to buying their next album.
