5.0 out of 5 stars Four Reviews? How can this be?, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Beyond the Horizon (Audio CD)
People In Planes defy classification. Post Grunge? A touch. Prog? Smatterings. Indy? God I hope not. Lacking a pigeon hole, however, may doom them to Indyland - doomed to become on of the best bands you'll never hear. I hope not. By any account, this is a dynamite CD. Mister 1 star has a point that this may be a more AOR oriented set than their first, but it's hardly a sell-out. These guys play one start to finish, tour de force, hook and lick riddled hell of a good time. I'm not one to launch into a verbose in-depth analysis. However highlights include a furious rhythm section that anchors stellar guitar, vocals (dark and moody) and weirdy keyboards-al la Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree). In fact, if you happen to be a PT devotee, POP are well worth checking out. I'm astonished by how little media attention (good or bad) this CD has received. They should dump their entire management staff. There was "No Image Available" for the cover for several days after the debut on all the major music sites. Lord knows, these guys have a hard enough time finding an audience without that kind of incompetence. Oh well. If you have a taste for the richly eclectic, this CD might be for you. I guaranty it's worth a listen.

I liked the whole album. It has good songs that don't get any coverage on the radio. I'll be looking forward to buying their next album.

An unbelievable mix of melody, power and beat. Compare Kingdom of Rust by The Doves. The two best bands going today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing CD, July 30, 2009

I, like the other reviewers, loved People in Planes first CD, but this one has something special as well. The more you listen to it, the more you find amazing gems- like the atmospheric sound at the beginning of "I Wish You'd Fall Apart" or the way the drums and guitar combine in "Pretty Buildings." The CD is great- hopefully more people will stubmle upon this group like I did and discover what a great band People in Planes is.

5.0 out of 5 stars So little reviews for such an amazing band!, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Beyond the Horizon (MP3 Download)
This album is just fascinating. Every track is musical magic, reinventing itself over and over. I honestly can't pick out just one favorite song, as they are all really that good.

Great work on PiPs part, and I can't wait for their new music, once it finally comes. The live stuff I've heard is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, June 16, 2010

I found People in Planes on accident on a video on youtube and was instantly hooked. Going from haunting to rocking out the instrumental talent of guitar riffs, drum beats and a whirlwind sound of keyboard, each song sounds diff. yet all are amazing. It's not a very well known band yet but if they keep putting out music as they have been, imo they will become a major hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots to appreciate here if you have an open mind, September 26, 2008
This review is from: Beyond the Horizon (Audio CD)
I'm sure many of these songs that have modern, radio-friendly influences will tick off those that just wanted more "purish" type rock stylings. I'm on the other side and enjoy the freshness of this batch of tunes.

I got turned on to People in Planes about 2 years ago shortly after their first full release "As Far As The Eye Can See" and was blown away by their muscular and eclectic songwriting. Every song is a winner. I recently found out that thier first release has sold only about 22,000 copies. A decent start but I hope they get more exposure soon. They deserve it. I saw the band perform live about a month ago locally in the Detroit area. They rocked! I, too, eagerly awaited their second release, wondering how they could top their first. I heard snippets online and, at first, was a bit disappointed--their new songs sounded alternately more popish and more rockish and they sounded overproduced. I knew I had to get the CD and give it a good listen. My first reaction was still muted but in the last week or so I've listened to the entire CD about 10 times and it's grown on me. While I still feel their first release was a masterpiece, I'm giving this recording a "5" nonetheless because--well, I just like these guys--and I still feel their music is unique and a cut above most of what is out there. They could have tried to carbon-copy their "original" sound (as many bands try to do on) but they have expanded their basic sound and taken a successful risk. My fave tracks are "Mayday (M'Aidez)", "Flesh and Blood," "I Hope That You Fall Apart," and "Evil with You."

Give this band a listen if you haven't already! Great job, mates! Wish you all the success in the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice change of pace from the mainstream, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Beyond the Horizon (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of People in Planes since "As far as the eye could see" debuted. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of their next effort "Beyond the Horizon" and it was well worth every minute of the wait. I was already aware of the song "Pretty Buildings" that was featured on the band's myspace page but decided to wait for the album's release before listening to any others so that I could be surprised and really take the time to enjoy the experience. Even though every track is worth listening to, "Last Man Standing," "Better Than Life" and "Flesh and Blood" are the songs that I was hooked on from the second the cd started. The new album definitely has a slightly different feel from their previous efforts. It has a more experimental feel to it, in my opinion, but new and old fans alike can still find remnants of an old familiar friend within the songs on the album. I highly recommend. An adventure you won't regret!
