4.0 out of 5 stars This Is Amazing Death Metal! old school.
I have the 16 Track Digipack with "Beyond the unknown" & "Serpent Temptation".I think it is available here. Anyway this is Death / Trash 1990's style, detuned and dirty. The other band called Incubus came later. i don't know with the styles in America it doesn't take much to shove corporate Rock down throat's so i can't blame this band in changing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Yeah they're definately different
Yeah... for the guy that said that both Incubus bands are the same.... you're wrong. The first Incubus band (metal) was made in Louisiana by Francis and Moyses Howard. And it was formed like 8 years before the new Incubus guys even graduated High School. The new Incubus guys are named Ben Kenney, Jose Pasillas, Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, and Chris Kilmore. Dude,...

If your a fan of Death metal especially of the Florida variant i would recommend this fine album. it is available in Europe as a digipack but it has no extra's like credits etc.., Nuclear blast is the label.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums, June 12, 2003

If you are into death metal, definitely listen to this album. it was released around 1990 but still is one of my favorites. there other album-serpent temptation is also a good album but sounds more raw. there is a digipak cd available right now that has both albums. and to the critics who wrote bad reviews about this album and don't even listen to metal, next time don't bother, you're just taking up space. i don't have any interest in listening to the other incubus, but i won't waste my time writing a bad review for a band i don't even listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is intense death/thrash metal with christian overtones, February 6, 2004
my guess is that those fans of MTV incubus have never even heard this band, much less read the lyrics enough to make a qualified statement about how bad they think "beyond the unknown" is. in case it wasn't clear after 15 other reviews, this is a death-thrash metal band that formed in 1986. during this time, many bands didn't bother to copyright their names, and unfortunately this is one of them. this is why the band changed their name to "incubus rage" and then "opprobrium" when they reformed in the late 90s. about "beyond the unknown", it's one of the true classic albums in death/thrash metal history. nuclear blast records sucks, and their cheap ways resulted in an album that with a better production and distribution could've really become something big. what i think makes incubus so great is their hyperspeed brand of thash metal. beyond the unknown contains catchy guitar playing (thanks to the frantic soloing and songwriting style of frances howard), as well as some of the best thrash drumming of the era (courtesy of frances' brother, moyses). if you like sepultura, hypnosia, whiplash, morbid angel, etc, this album will only add a new level of intensity to your collection!

ps-it's official, frances and moyses howard are two of the most talented musicians ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent band with Excellent albums!, July 30, 2011
This band is simply amazing! I listen to all types of music both metal and non-metal alike and this is a fine example of REAL raw thrash metal from the 1990's. There is no fake Incubus and there is no imposter! If you want to get technical with me these guys were adults when the members of the well known Incubus were still sucking their thumbs. If you think for a second anyone is an imposter you are pitifully delusional and misinformed. These guys were the originals and they had the original Incubus name the only reason why the popular Incubus won was because they had more money to support themselves in the court than the original Incubus. They only won their fame through selling out to the media and that is not something to be proud of. They stole the original Incubus's name in short so think about that for a second! These guys were the originals and that is the end of that. Also I'm going to cover another subject. This band isn't just screaming and noise it is genuine skullcrushing headbanging thrash metal. If you want to hear screaming and noise go listen to just about any metalcore or deathcore band. Psh! You people really need to do your homework. Incubus was forced to change their name to Opprobrium due to that unlawful case with the other Incubus. As for the halfwit who tried to say these guys changed their name to Incubus Nightmares...what are you thinking? I'll bet you didn't even buy this album or listen to it. I'll bet you just saw the cover and assumed it was screaming garbage. After all this album is nye impossible to find for a reasonable price. And if you're such the fanatic of the popular Incubus why didn't you recognize this was not your Incubus? Clearly someone doesn't do their homework and is butthurt because they were wrong. Next time you idiots need to think before you speak. Review an item if you know what it is, learn the history of a band before judging it! By all means are you entitled to your opinion but you are not entitled to be a douchebag on a public site.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great thrash release, July 6, 2006
These guys are amazing, but they do not compare to some of the other bands of the thrash metal genre - Criminal, Pestilence, and of course Brutality.. Either way, these guys are still amazing as balls and I appreciate them. Any fan of thrash metal should seriously check these guys out! Raaaaggghh!

5.0 out of 5 stars The REAL incubus, June 29, 2003
By
I personally have no problem with the Incubus that made "make yourself" and all that music. It's not exactly my style but it isn't that bad. But for all of you who say this isn't the "real" incubus, consider the facts: this band was around first. They are the "real" incubus just because they are older. It doesn't matter who you think is better. You shouldn't give it one star just because it isn't what you thought it would be. Anyone who knows death/ thrash would give this album what it deserves, 5 or at least 4 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not Incubus., November 16, 2001
By A Customer
This is not the same Incubus that released S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Enjoy Incubus, Make Yourself, Fungus Amongus, and Morning View. Just a little FYI for those who do not know.
