Biography

Informatik released their debut album, Direct Memory Access, in 1995 via their own label SINless Records. Having achieved considerable success on the strength of the club hit “At Your Command,” they signed to Metropolis Records to re-issue the album as Direct Memory Access V2.0 with additional songs and a bonus video. Just two years later, Informatik released the sophomore album Syntax, which… Read more in Amazon's Informatik Store

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my new favorite albums, January 14, 2009
This review is from: Beyond (Audio CD)
I have to admit it has been several years since I first heard Informatik. It isn't because I didn't like their music but I completely put the group aside for other artists and bands in the synthpop and industrial genres. I recently re-discovered Informatik when I decided to buy their new album BEYOND on a whim. Much to my (pleasant) surprise, Infomatik has taken on a more synthpop sound with BEYOND. I felt like I was listening to a mixture of De/Vision and Covenant. da5id Din's deep, warm vocals often reminded me of Steffen and Eskil. BEYOND begins with my favorite song "Nothing Greater", a beautiful ballad. The gentle, warm of da5id's vocals comforts me on this cold, winter night in January. Informatik definitely hasn't eschewed their industrial roots. The industrial influences are still there in songs like "My True Love", "Night and Day", and "Louder than Words". Initially I wasn't sure what to make of the cd but after listening to it several times, BEYOND has really grown on me considerably. The lyrics are simply beautiful as are the melodies and vocals. All of the songs are great. I am glad I bought BEYOND. It was a great re-introduction to Informatik.

What an outstanding tribute to what good music really is! These two men are very talented and have even gone beyond good in this CD. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes dark industrial music and the message is thought provoking. You will not be disappointed!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Transitioning through the Decades and Understanding how to be "More", December 3, 2008

Informatik has changed over the years - much to their credit - and have stood tall while other bands have faltered. That is because they understand something about music that other bands sometimes forget: even if your fanbase loves the sound you have now, you have to evolve or you will soon be collecting dust and declining royalties. If you look at the evolution of the band it is an amazing one, too, with them going from a EBM band that relied on voxed lyrics to a band that still relied on a specific formula to something that abruptly stepped into itself. Fragments of what the band could be was easily seen on tracks like Euthanasia and much of the album Evolution, but the next albums really took chances. Instead of going with the idea that "voxing = success" they took a chance and made two great albums and one even great remix album. Re:Visions was absolutely superb, outdoing even the album it was based on - Nymphomatik -and showing what could be in store.
Beyond - that was well worth waiting for.

On Beyond, there are a variety of beats and a variety of sounds, cultivated by people you can tell want to grow. I REALLY love the song "My True Love," both because of the beat and because of the way it comes to life. Decoded Feedback's sound is built on deep vocals these days, plus a showcase of love songs that really evoke emotions. Interestingly, this was their formula in the past - with voxed growls hiding lines like "I see the stars in your eyes" - but it is more transparent for the casual consumer and highlights those one-hidden talents. "Louder than words" is also thematically inclined toward love (or its antithesis), and the beat shelters seemingly fragile lyrics in a way that makes it and myself recline in audio bliss together. "Temporary" is another song I am draw toward - it has a slow build, a tiny bit of vocal distortion that leaves almost all of the voice intact, and that it lives on a plateau of hurt. I like that, the seeming reality and the pain built into the setting, and so many other tracks on the album.

Granted, I am a fan of the band and I suppose that creates a bit of built-in bias. I try not to let that influence my reviews, however, and really do think this is an album worth checking out. Simply sample some of the songs mentioned and others here or at Metropolis and see what you, the only critic that honestly matters, thinks.
I love the album and have had it in my playlist for a while now, recommend it and the album Re:Vision highly, and think that the newer direction of bands should be looked at and embraced by even the most hardcore or the old-school EBMers.
Recommended highly.
