4.0 out of 5 stars perceptive and fact-based
Well written and well reasoned Christian approach to political divisiveness. No easy answers, but good principles for what and when to compromise or hold steady.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read, but!!!
This book is a good read, but it seems to me that it is a bit biased! The author seems to make a point that Christians should be more "left leaning." You must read this book with an open mind. If you are a Christian and read the part where the author states that "America is not a Christian nation," do not let it make you mad just continue to read on and find out why...

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative, accessible study guide, October 4, 2008

Book was used as a study guide in church school class of 30 adults. Sections on history and organization of government are enlivened with interesting examples. Guidance to Christians emphasizes need for mutual respect and understanding in dealing with different opinions. Black's writing style, level of detail, and use of sidebars make the book quite readable as well as thought-provoking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful resource, November 15, 2008
This review is from: Beyond Left and Right: Helping Christians Make Sense of American Politics (Paperback)
I found this book to be a very helpful tool for Christians to engage thoughtfully and biblically in our American political system. Amy Black provides an informed perspective that is intentionally non-partisan and biblically informed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A clear, concise, accessible, and balanced Christian introduction to American politics, January 9, 2010

I teach political science at a small Christian college, and have incorporated this text into my Introduction to American Government course. Several of my students noted that this book was a great way not only of better understanding how Christians should approach American politics but also of solidifying and clarifying their understanding of the subject matter itself. In an era of political polarization, this book does a great job of providing a balanced foundation for further discussion. (If you're looking for a book to study in a small group or an adult Sunday School class, you should seriously consider this one.)
