A doctor who admits that 'medicine' didn't 'heal' him when he suffered from ARDS,
This review is from: Beyond Medicine (Paperback)
but that it kept him alive long enough for Prayer, Touch, Humor, Pets and Music to do the job is a brave man!
There is so much more to the psyche of human healing than comes in pill! Steve's story was incredible, but this book has several other people's stories too. All of whose stories are amazing! I highly recommend this book, especially if you or someone you know is suffering.

From the perspective of patients and family members, Dr. Yarnall reveals the sources of strength that ordinary people can draw upon when faced with a catastrophic illness.
John Hansen-Flaschen, M.D. Professor of Medicine& Chief of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine This book is a magnificent revelation about a little-known disease - ARDS. The stories of sheer courage of ARDS patients makes it difficult to put this book down once started. This book is a "must read" for everyone. Alexander Rayshich, 77 year old retired Engineer This book is so good that I'm sending a copy to each of our Board Members. Jeannette Dunn, Director Foundation for Care Management This is a wonderful, helpful book for the critically ill patient, family and friends. Healthy readers can see what the patient is REALLY going through. I know since I was a 42-year old ARDS patient following surgery for a stomach ulcer in April, 2000. the miracle of cure,
By
This review is from: Beyond Medicine (Paperback)
The surgical knife and pills are not the only sources of curing the ailing body. There are cures we can't explain and their influences are sometimes far more powerful than all the armaments available at the hands of physicians. Sometimes we label them as miracles. In perhaps more instances than we think it is these other influences that give surgery and medicines their successes. Faith, love, support of others, music, beauty, and many other factors have powerful influences on the way our bodies react to illnesses and their cures. This book is especially necessary to anyone who has given up hope and to their families and loved ones who are despairing.
