This is Kitano at his worst.

I know a lot of people hate subtitles, but they're just missing out on a lot of great movies with that attitude.

This outstanding (much awaited) sequel to 'Outrage' was fantastic. The movie picks up about 5 yrs later and the action and intrigue is non stop. Kitano has "Otomo, come out to 'play' with Kato, Ishihara, Funaki, Kimura etc... as only he can.
The expression "Let's play baseball" now has a whole new meaning to me.
All in all a 5 star rating! Kitano doesn't disappoint!

p.s. I did watch 'Outrage' again before viewing this as it had been a couple of yrs and it was helpful to me.

Takeshi Kitano headlines another amazing movie. This sequel does not parallel Outrage, the way most sequels do, it goes further. It will take you to unexpected places and the finish is bittersweet. This movie can stand alone, if you have not seen Outrage and live on a deserted island. The incredible timing of the actors makes this an honor to watch.

If you like Kitano and a dish best served cold. Then this sequel to "Outrage" is right up your alley. Very satisfying conclusion.

I loved the lighting done on this film. The way the shadows form on the faces of the actors feels very foreboding and dark; Kitano definitely found the right tonality for this sort of genre. Every frame has an aura of angst, wrinkle-faced gangsters, and myriad grey/black pinstriped suits (typical mafia attire). But the script is not on pair with the aesthetics or the look of the film. There are many scenes in which you'll find the characters reiterating plot points and discussing affairs of antagonizing rival factions with other Yakuza clan members, but it never reaches to any dramatic heft or a rewarding interplay of conflict between the crime families. You'll find all the best lines of Beyond Outrage in the trailer. Overall, the cinematography is great, but the screenplay is ho-hum.

I was going through Netflix, looking to get through my Queue. Unless I'm familiar with a film, usually, 90% are junk. I usually have better luck with foreign films, like Starbuck. I gave this a try on Memorial Day weekend. I just couldn't stop watching. I barely remembered the original, which I watched some time ago. Very good storytelling. I'm amazed that Hollywood hasn't tried to remake these films yet. It would need some work, but it's great stuff. I know a lot of people hate subtitles, but they're just missing out on a lot of great movies with that attitude. This is highly recommended. I assume a third one will be made. These films could be something like the Man With No Name Trilogy. Great stuff.

This is a great sequel to OUTRAGE, good action and acting, it didn't matter the cost of the movie, it was well worth it.

Filled with all the plotting, politics, and backstabbing twists that you enjoyed in the first Outrage, Outrage beyond continues the twisted tale of Yakuza revenge spun out of control. If you enjoyed Outrage then this is the perfect second helping. I hope they make another.
