Product Description

Sixteen-year-old Nathan Shepherd has a great life traveling where the careers of his father, an investigator, and mother, a renowned violinist, take him ... until his parents are found murdered. Left with only a mirror and notes from his father's last case, Nathan goes into hiding at the remote country home of Tony, his father's college buddy, and Tony's teenage daughter, Kelly. The mysterious mirror must be a clue to what happened to his parents, and when images appear in it---people and things that don't exist---Nathan and Kelly painstakingly gather evidence. But the killers want the mirror too, and danger threatens the teens at every turn. As it becomes evident that Nathan's father had stumbled upon dark forces at work in the world, several questions arise. Could it be that the mirror is a portal to a parallel world? Could this technology be used for evil purposes? And could his parents still be alive, trapped in another dimension? Nathan and Kelly struggle to solve the mystery before they too become victims. This chilling, hair-raising adventure is jam-packed with action in a fantastical world where nothing is as it seems, and even mirrors tell lies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet More Brilliance, April 26, 2008
Three different earths, three different dimensions, each spiraling out of control as the weave that holds the dimensions begins to crumble. With Beyond the Reflection's Edge, Bryan Davis has penned a tale that readers of his previous works couldn't have anticipated. Starting out fast, the book never slows down until the last turn of the page. A worthy read for all lovers of science fiction and contemporary fantasy.

When I finished reading Beyond the Reflection's Edge the first time, I was blown away by the intricacies of the plot and characters. All I can say is "Wow."

5.0 out of 5 stars My kind of book. My kind of unique plot. My kind of story., February 27, 2009
Review by Jill Williamson

Sixteen-year-old Nathan Shepherd has an unusual life traveling the world with his investigator father, his world-renowned violinist mother, and his personal tutor. Something goes wrong at a concert in Chicago that results in the death of his parents. Nathan moves to a small town to live with a childhood friend of his father's and his teenage daughter Kelly. He takes little with him: his mother's violin and the Quattro mirror his father had insisted he keep safe.

As Nathan tries to adapt to his new life, he discovers that his small mirror is the missing piece of a wall-sized mirror in his new bedroom. Once the mirror is whole, Nathan stumbles onto a mystery. The mirror shows him things. But are they his dreams? the future? or a different world? Could his parents still be alive? Nathan and Kelly must work together to figure it all out.

Wow. This was a completely unexpected and unique story. I've read a few books before that deal with different dimensions, and although this one did get a bit confusing, it was much easier to understand for this non-science girl. I liked Nathan's character a lot. This world needs a lot more "perfect gentlemen." I also really enjoyed how the plot kept unfolding. I sort of saw the ending coming, but I didn't know how Bryan Davis was going to get us there. Overall, this was a really entertaining, fast-paced story. My kind of book. My kind of unique plot. My kind of story. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tried to Like, May 12, 2008

(REAL NAME)
I really tried to like this book. However, I found it very hard to follow, with the multiple changing characters, and jumping from place to place. I had to draw a diagram to keep the good guys and the bad guys straight. I did finish the book and was very disappointed with an ending that left too many unanswered questions. I found the main character a little "too good to be true", at one point in the story he asks himself if he can overcome the "past" of the female lead. The only past mentioned was that the girl made the mistake of wearing a low-cut dress and liked the attention it brought. A little unrealistic for this day and age.

That being said I did enjoy the Christian ideals set forth by Nathan and his parents, and the beautiful language used to describe God's beauty in the world.

More About the Author

Bryan Davis is the author of the following young adult fantasy series: Dragons in our Midst, Oracles of Fire, Echoes from the Edge, and Dragons of Starlight. He also wrote I Know Why the Angels dance, a contemporary novel for adults.

After laboring as a computer geek for 20 years, Bryan followed a dream to become an author. He began by writing a story to motivate his seven children to gain some excitement about writing, and that story grew into a novel. After spending the next eight years learning the craft and enduring more than 200 rejections from publishers and agents, he broke through with his best-selling series Dragons in our Midst. He is now a full-time author and lives with his wife, Susie, and their children in western Tennessee.

Bryan's novels have been readily accepted in schools worldwide, whether public, Christian (Protestant or Catholic), Jewish, or otherwise. Such is their wide appeal. For more information, see his website - http://www.daviscrossing.com
