Kimmer Reed is the type of woman who doesn't need anyone. Growing up in an abusive household, Kimmer doesn't hold much faith in family. Her father abused her mother, who ended up dying when Kimmer was still a young girl. Surrounded by brothers-Hank, Jeff, Karl, and Tim-who used every opportunity available to get her on the receiving end of their fists, Kimmer doesn't trust easily. The only exception seems to be Ryobe " Rio " Carlsen, an ex-CIA agent who means more to her than she can sometimes admit.

There are a few rules that Kimmer lives by. According to her, she has no family. And her work, the assignments she does for the Hunter Agency , are never to be brought onto her home turf. But that's exactly what happens when her brother Hank shows up in Watkins Glen, claiming that he's witnessed a murder and wanting Kimmer's specialized help. What he wants is for his sister to murder the bad guys, but she's smart enough to realize that when it comes to her family, the bad guys aren't always who they appear to be.

Now the goons that were following Hank have found their way to Kimmer and Rio 's doorstep, and it's up to the two of them to combine their skills and stop a group of men and women who have the future of a group of young girls in their hands. As the situation becomes ever more perilous, Kimmer realizes that she's going to have to come to grips with her family, and with her feelings for Rio . Because it's not just her life on the line this time, but that of her brother, her lover, and those young girls.

BEYOND THE RULES is a fascinating addition to the Bombshell line. Part action-adventure, part family drama, this story explores how far someone will go to do what's right-even when it may include going against your own flesh and blood. As Kimmer learns to trust not only her instincts but Rio , and as she finds out just how deeply Hank has dug himself into a hole of trouble, you'll be glad you're along for the ride.

Kimmer Reed fled from her physically abusive past in Munroeville, Pennsylvania to the Watkins Glen, New York area. She wants to refuse, but knows she must help her beleaguered brother whom she has not seen in years and does not know which sibling he even is at first. Her middle brother Hank needs Kimmer's help as his life and that of his wife and her nieces are in peril from goons he allowed to use one of his facilities and that was the reason he witnessed a murder.

She wants nothing to do with her family, but the goons have followed Hank to her so she has no choice. Her security expert and former good guy CIA Agent boyfriend Ryobe "Rio" Carlsen assists her as they fight to stay alive. However, though Rio wants his beloved in his life for eternity, she has doubts as she knows first hand how families are the backbone for abuse.

Fans of exciting action-packed, gender bending twists will appreciate this fun thriller. The story line is fast-paced from the moment that Kimmer allows Hank to catch up to her and never slows down as her disdain for her sibling remains a constant. Though some of the spins seem a stretch, suspense fans will not care as they will root for Kimmer and Rye to CHECKMATE the goons and save her nieces while wondering where Hank truly fits in the mess. Doranna Durgin daringly provides a fine romantic suspense tale starring a capable lead couple.
