5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Beautiful Music of Frank Chacksfield
I came across this CD on Amazon and was absolutely thrilled to see
the name, Frank Chacksfield again after sooo many years. When I was
in high school and college and young married, I listened to this
glorious music for hours on end. Every selection is perfect. Remember,
"Limelight" (from movie Charlie Chaplin made in '50's), Ebb Tide,

3.0 out of 5 stars out to sea
Generally well-done as far as arrangements, playing in tune. Good selection of numbers in the same genre. But I have serious trouble with the engineering - someone was leaning on the 'highs' and it drives me up the wall. I would have thought better of something I believe was made in Germany. (And unfortunately my car player isn't adjustable to bring out the lows.)

How deep is the ocean. The best thing about this recording is whoever
remastered it did a beautiful job-it sounds exactly like it did
way, way back. It is wonderful to know we still have beautiful music in our lives.

There are 2 new CDs of Polygram, one this of Mr. Chacksfield, a wonderful orchestra with 2 LPs. 1 is inedit "Limelight", for the first time in CD. The other CD of Polygram is of Ronnie Aldrich, too 2 on 1. Both CDs are excellents! The sound is 5 stars for the 2 CDs.
The 4 LPs represents the golden years of the big orchestras and Decca/London.
If you love the GOOD sound, the GOOD orchestras and GOOD arragments, buy this two new CDs of Polygram.
(Note for Polygram personal: Vocalion a few weeks ago debuted with 2 CDs with the same material in each half of this compilations! Please, can somebody do a little look to the records in this world before reediting again the same LPS?).
There are MANY records (LPs) and hidden treasures waiting to see the format in CD. And Many collectors and fans of Phase 4 Stereo waiting NEW music.....

Out of all my CD purchases these 3 are among the best.

1. Beyond The Sea Frank Chacksfield
2. Forever In Love Floyd Cramer
3. 20 Years of Beautiful Music 101 Strings

Usually there are 1 or 2 selections on a CD that you really like but all of the choices are good. Frank Chacksfield and 101 Strings have excellent orchestrations for each tune or melody. I have thorougly enjoyed them all as they are from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Album: "Beyond The Sea"

There's a lot of water in this album, from "Ebb Tide" to "Victory at Sea." It is all very nice and relaxing. "Ebb Tide" and "Stranger on the Shore" are both done very well with a serious treatment not heard often today - Very Good. Excellent trombone section work in "Moonlight on the Ganges." My late father played in many fine trombone sections. I can almost see him working in these pieces. Chacksfield plays the strings in contrast with the brass very well. "Victory at Sea" was missing the Navy.

Album: "THE NEW LIMELIGHT"

This is a very nice mixture of styles - classical with touches of light jazz. There's a very fine trombone solo in "The Man That Got Away." His treatment of "Scarlet Ribbon" was very popular. Most people will recognize these songs as light classics of the first half of the 20th Century. These are classy recordings. The combination of "Picnic" and "Moonglow" is a 1950's classic. The "Warsaw Concerto" is a heavy piece but everyone should listen to it once or twice as a repesentative of classical music.

Have loved listening to Frank Chacksfield's music for years -- his greatest piece being Ebb Tide. About wore out my cassette copy of this music and was delighted to find it on CD from Amazon. Seems to me Amazon has the greatest of selections of music available and at a great price. Finding the best place to go looking for what I am interested in is on Amazon.

My Husband has this on a 33 1/3 vinyl record and wanted it on a CD now. It is a well done recording. Victory At Sea is one of the great songs.
