I was surprised. This music is really very beautiful. The songs vary in style, but still flow together so pleasantly. It's everything "authentic" Jewish music should be: hopeful, sad, fun, and sweet. I'm so glad I bought it.

I never write reviews but as I was listening to this CD for about the one-thousandth time today, I thought of how much enjoyment Helfand's CD has brought me over the years. The compositions are beautiful, varied (some upbeat, some more reflective) and are expertly played (Helfand is a great harpist). I agree with both of the other reviews on this site: yes, it is "easy listening," but also it does evoke something of an ancient Middle East.

I enjoyed this CD for easy-listening; it's good for hearing when there is quiet and one can really listen to it. It doesn't have any "hooks," so it requires that listening where things come on their own. It's good for quiet times because it is beautiful.

I'd been searching in vein for music that might have sounded like it came from ancient Israel. Nobody really knows what that might have been, for many reasons. The closest I could find was classical, which really wasn't what I was looking for at all. I wanted music that might have been played in Saul's kingdom, or that might have come from David's harp, or what the Jewish people of ancient Israel might have danced to.
Well, I am happy to say that this is precisely what I was searching for. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed in this CD; it is just gorgeous.
