The democracy of the great beyond,

This review is from: Beyond Shadow World: Our Shared World of the Supernatural (Paperback)
This is my favorite Brad Steiger book, and let me tell you why,
or better yet, Brad can tell you better, "As you will see in this chapter of inspirational stories, it matters little if the entities involved in the account are called angels, Light Beings, spirit quides, or Elder Spirits, these benevolent guardians are never off duty." (Page 185.) Not only does Brad provide historical evidence for the claims and assertions of his subjects, peers, and stories; Steiger gives practical steps for the reader, throughout the book, in achieving communion with the "shared world of the supernatural"! He joins the ranks of William James, Edgar Cayce, and Raynor Johnson, in helping all of us who previously thought such dimensions, taboo, hokum, or even heretical; achieve communion with goodness beyond the doors of everyday life. Pick up this classic and you will not be able to put it down. I promise! Wild Bill Taylor PS--On a personal note, I was a paramedic from 1982-1997, in charge of dealing with a lot of death, suffering, and unfairness. Until sages like Brad Steiger came along, I had given up all hope of becoming a spirtural person again, but thanks to Mr. Steiger's broad and loving highway, I feel "reborn".

Okay Ladies and Gentlemen, put down your number two pencils, put up your tray tables to their up right position because if you are looking for a must-read for your Summer Book List, you have found it. Brad Steiger has done it YET AGAIN (was there ever a doubt in anyone's mind?) with this latest opus. Steiger brings in those legendary writing fingers of his again and takes us with him into a world that is all at once terrifying, mysterious, beautiful and massive.
"Beyond Shadow World" delves readers into a world of dark creatures of our nightmares, but the nightmares are all but real. The stories in this book will make you wonder what is real and what is imaginary. You will think twice before turning off the light at night and you will not second guess your friends or loved ones when next they tell you about their nightly encounter with a dark stranger. But it's more than this! Brad Steiger takes this taboo subject among Paranormal Enthusiasts and Experts and brings to light what could be the single best explanation for what "Shadow People" (as they are called by some) are. Instead of using a popular explanation, Steiger takes the road few dare to tread and, not only does he succeed, I truly believe he has paved a brand new road into Paranormal Semantics and thought with this book. If you want to know the truth behind the unknown, if you have your own secret encounters and you feel alone, don't. You are no longer alone. Buy this book, I urge you, and know that you are not alone. Just make sure Brad turns on the night light, he kind of tends to leave it off for dramatic effect!

This book starts out with some great stories, but after a while it becomes annoyingly self promoting. His importance as "THE AUTHORITY" is heavy handed. The stories fade into the background as he outlines his methods for contacting the other-side, all of which you have heard before.
I was expecting this book to dwell on his theories about the nature of the supernatural from a much less religious/good and evil, point of view. There is very little scientific conjecture here. He gives the normal warnings about OUIJA boards and says that all angels might not be what they appear to be, but then claims allegiance to a less than friendly hooded figure who appears in his bedroom to guide his writing. The figure and orbs of light he describes reminded me a great deal of the occurrences at Utah's Skinwalker Ranch, a much better read backed up by good science("The Hunt for the Skinwalker" available here). Nothing in this book will help you to separate what may be paranormal from what could be inter-dimensional or even alien. He just doesn't go deeply enough into any other theories. I was also put off by his use of mediums in seemingly dangerous situations. He labels certain people stable enough to do this work while others, especially children, too easily possessed. While children are impressionable, psyhic adults are just as suggestible. Another author, journalist Joe Fisher, in his very well written investigation of who or what possesses many trance mediums, uncovered some unpleasant facts about these entities motives and intentions that bears reading before you go dabbling into haunted places. As Joe noted, many entities claim to be Doctors (as does the channeled entity in one of these stories), perhaps in an attempt to be more influential. I would recommend Joe's book "The Siren Call of Hungry Ghosts" over this volume. Couple it with "The Hunt for Skinwalker" and you will have a much better and more thought provoking idea of what the "supernatural" may be than anything provided here will give you. You might also want to add "Walking Through Walls." |
