Book Description

This unique memoir takes you right into the heart of Indian Bolivia before our first Indian president, Evo Morales, assumed the presidency. It's a story of struggle, survival, tragedy, growth and self realization set against one of the poorest, most exotic countries in South America. The story of this heroic single mother and her extraordinary children won't leave you indifferent. It's a story for anyone who's ever had a dream and had to struggle in the pursuit of it. If you have a hunger for different cultures and you like to take different journeys, this book is for you. This is a testament to the power of the human spirit, a tribute to the millions of immigrants all over the world who must make tremendous sacrifices in their quest for a better life.

2.0 out of 5 stars A difficult life. December 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had to force myself to read it and finish her story. First she makes several mistakes in the translation to English, the spelling of places in Bolivia.
I am from the same generation more or less. She blames Bolivia for her pain and difficult life; while it was her mothers choices that was to blame, specially the abuse the children had at her mothers hand.
The mother was a poor mother, and like many abused children the author excuses her behavior.
My best friend had a mother that lost everyting when she became a widow, but she went to ask for schoollarships for her 3 daughters, she knitted and supported them. All became professional women.
Her descriptions of some people are very cruel, and despective.
Her whole family was very disfuctional, her brother is the one that broke my hearth.
Her description of Miraflores is wrong, it is a residential area, very pretty, she probably was living across the river, Villa San Antonio.
The upbringing is what makes a person, not money, but care and love.
One can change a first name, a surname, but the essence of where we came from is what makes us.
I am a very proud Bolivian American. Maybe I was lucky to have the best parents, but also I had duties and obligations: first in my class, giving to others, and never forgetting where I come from.
In College in the US I made presentations to teach the beauty and rich culture of Bolivia.
I recommend to use a proof reader for any future books.
Also to read other Bolivian authors that have books translated to English.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Honest Account April 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This quintessentially inspiring memoir is brutally honest and infused with pain and tragedy, struggle and ultimate triumph. It is one woman's day to day account of growing up in poverty-stricken Bolivia and her fearful escape to a better life. Years later, she comes full circle and returns home to face the demons of her childhood. This story, a powerful testament to the resiliency of the human spirit, left me uplifted.

More About the Author

Beatrice Brusic was born in Oruro, Bolivia. Her mother brought her to La Paz, Bolivia when she was five years old. She emigrated to America when she was seventeen years old and has earned her living as a legal assistant, always dreaming of writing full time. "Beyond the Snows of the Andes" now on the Kindle and paperback is a fulfillment of that dream. Always a voracious reader, she finally made the transition from reader to writer five years ago when the memoir first began to take root. Throughout the years she's received positive reinforment of her passion for writing in her numerous attempts to express herself, but it took a great writer like Frank McCourt to finally break through the inhibitions that were holding her prisoner. I hope you'll enjoy her memoir. I hope you'll take from it hope and courage for whatever endeavor you want to take in your life.

Her second book "A Different Journey" which deals with the birth of her beautiful, exceptional daughter has also been published and it's now available on Kindle and paperback.

"Jill & Mickey, A True Story" is a short story about an extraordinary bird that is sweet and tender and should appeal to all animal lovers, not just bird lovers.

"Six Months of Wonderful," is also another short story about a magnificent Persian Cat that touched my life in a very special way and I think you will find it both beautiful and heartbreaking.

I am also working on my first novel (the name is secret till I finish it) which I hope to finish by the end of the year or by February of next year at the most. It will be the first time I'm tackling fiction and I'm finding it very exciting and challenging.

In addition, I also have a blog, "Let's Talk About Different Issues," which you can view on the Kindle.
