5.0 out of 5 stars The Nanny Diaries of GYN!!!!, April 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond the Stirrups: A Gynecologist's Memoir of Women in Contemporary America (Hardcover)
"Beyond the Stirrups" is an extraordinary compilation of the joys, trials and tribulations found behind the closed doors of a gynecologist's exam/consultation room. There isn't a thing missing here. The book is well written, the pace is great, the dialogue flows and each chapter tells its own personal story. (this I found to be a real plus) There's no question that some of the stories are shocking, but they are stories that need to be told. You will find yourself discussing this book with friends and family (and maybe even your own GYN) long after you've finished reading this book. It is a must for every woman's bookshelf!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Stirrups, March 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond the Stirrups: A Gynecologist's Memoir of Women in Contemporary America (Hardcover)
This book is extremely informative about women from all walks of life and includes just about every category you can imagine: teenagers right through ripe old age, lesbians, transsexuals, prostitutes, women diagnosed as being bi-polar, HIV positive, battered women, etc. The running thought commentary is a riot.
I kept seeing a possible TV show on the order of Curb your Enthusiasm to Six Feet Under. a show pased on the book could be calaled "Six Inches In" although "Beyond the Stirrups" is pretty good too. It's very heartwarming. I could not put it down. Terrific reading. Dr. Sonder writes with love and compassion for her subjects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Stirrups, January 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond the Stirrups: A Gynecologist's Memoir of Women in Contemporary America (Hardcover)
I enjoyed Beyond the Stirrups immensely. The book flowed and was easy to read. Each chapter dealt with a different part of women's health. I have started to read it a second time and am recommending it to my friends. This is also a book that men should also read to better understand their partner.

'Beyond The Stirrups' is a collection of marvelously informative, exciting, interesting, humorous and touching stories about women-- their minds, their bodies, their health and the spirit that connects all of the above. (for better or worse) Dr. Sonder and Judith Kristen wrote something you can really dig your heels into. Lots here for friends to hash over on coffee breaks! I thoroughly enjoyed it! FIVE STARS PLUS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigue and insight, January 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond the Stirrups: A Gynecologist's Memoir of Women in Contemporary America (Hardcover)
This book is a wonderful collection of circumstantial anecdotes that relate to all women. The joys, the strife, the love, the hate that women endure can be seen in these pages. The author team of Sonder and Kristen provide us with an easily comprehensible view of these serious modern issues through attention holding dialogue, narrator's thoughts, and sidebar advice. Any man that is interested in gaining insight to women in general, or a woman in particular, might consider reading this. It is worth the read.
