Not quite the book I was expecting. I found the concepts to be like nailing Jell-o to the wall. An extended meditation on, well, meditation. The gist of this book could have been covered in a 10-page essay... No thanks!!

I find most books that attempt to help me redefine my path through life a tad indulgent and difficult to implement. I've read The Secret and other valiant attempts to create a success manual for life. Not until the simple Pillar building strategy in Beyond Success have I actually been successful in the actual implementation of a new life plan. A big thanks to the author for coming up with such a simple, well thought out approach to redefining what is truly important and how to work towards true inner peace.

I am now starting my second reading of this book and I am actually finding myself writing notes in the margins and dog earing pages. I have never done this before. I recommend this book highly - it is the closest thing I have found to the secret sauce to understanding what drives us and how to redirect our energy to produce the results we want out of life. Life is not random - it is in our control and moving forward with deliberation is half the battle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and Refreshing!, June 22, 2009
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
Not knowing what to expect when opening this book, I resulted in having a new, profound view on life. Having read other books of similar genre never has one had such a powerful effect on me. The book was liberating. The author grabbed me from the very beginning. I found myself turning pages with enthusiasm, which is rare for a book of this kind (they can often be a painful read). Many times I found myself nodding in agreement with the author, as if he understood me. The points made in the book are so true, that I find myself rehearsing them to friends and family. I have become an ambassador for the book...that's how great it is!

This book gave me real-life advice on how to filter out the clutter in my mind, and the constant to do list (you know that one that always translates to feelings of guilt and inadequacy) so I can embrace the calm bliss I have craved.

A definite must read for everyone....no matter what stage of life or career you are in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeffrey speaks to everyone, only the chosen few listen, August 21, 2009
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
: "I recently had the privilege of meeting Jeffrey. He walks his talk!

This is the book to read if you still "don't know what you want to be when you grow up" or you DO know and everyone thinks you are crazy. A great thinking read when everyone tells you that you have it all, and yet, you know that there is something very important "missing".

Jeffrey speaks to everyone, only the chosen few listen."

5.0 out of 5 stars A top pick for both business and general lending libraries, October 15, 2009
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
BEYOND SUCCESS: REDEFINING THE MEANING OF PROSPERITY tells what happened to make author Jeffrey Gitterman so successful - and how any can follow his lead. He went from earning less than, $20K a year as an insurance salesman struggling with debt to running his own financial company and multiplying his income. At the peak of success he began to question assumptions about happiness and money - and found a way to achieve and enjoy a different kind of success. His inspirational guide is a top pick for both business and general lending libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing and Insighful!, August 17, 2009
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
Books on success both financial and in life have been a hobby of mine for many years. After a while even the best and most helpful books become predictable. Beyond Success puts a fresh perspective on what success is and how we define it. Success and happiness are highly personal concepts that are difficult to put a finger on, but Mr. Gitterman sheds light on these ideas in a way that is unique and highly personal. He quickly cuts through the misperceptions we have about money and happiness and the way they function in our lives and gives relevant personal advice for how to progress to the next step in breaking through the "glass ceilings" that we create. The insight he gives to how a meditation or contemplation practice can center our lives to do this work is so important in our culture of multi-tasking and on-demand everything. You should make this book your next read. It will change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars a look inside true success and happiness, January 31, 2012
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
Thanks Jeff for this fresh take and a look inside true success and happiness. I feel like I've read it all and to some degree done it all as per most current philosophers and philosophies. Clearly something has been amiss, or incomplete. I'm only 2/3rd through and have already been quoting you.

Blessings,

Dave

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeffrey Gitterman's BEYOND SUCCESS Takes You Beyond Just Thinking About You, August 20, 2011
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
In Jeffrey L. Gitterman's BEYOND SUCCESS we see that it takes more than just hard work in order to make something of the life we have. It has to be about something as well.

For Jeffrey that means that he considers others along his path. This doesn't seem like something that someone in a competitive business environment would do, but he shares that it is because of his willingness to help and assist others that he has been able to actually accomplish something worthwhile. There are many lessons that he shares with readers about what it actually takes to be successful. One of the biggest is not to think of success as the end. Success is something that is a continuation of the path you have chosen. It's like thinking that just because you are happy one day that means you are going to be happy forever.

Jeffrey also points out that the attention we give to others as well as our own choices has alot to do with the capital we accumulate along the way. This shows how important relationships are and how we can't expect to make it in business or in this world by ourselves.

For me the most important reminder is that we have to be able to invest in ourselves. This means not just financially but the way that we use our time each day. Are we taking out time each day to appreciate the little things around us? Are we recognizing the hand of something larger than ourselves in our activities? Are we giving our both the right nourishment and rest in order to give our best? These are all questions that we need to answer.

BEYOND SUCCESS is just the kind of book that those pursuing a successful business or relationship need to read and reflect on. Once we realize why we are doing the things we are committed to we can make sure that we are giving it our best. This book will help you in do just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected pleasure, March 15, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Beyond Success: Redefining the Meaning of Prosperity (Hardcover)
When I first found out about this book, I wasn't expecting it to wow me the way it did. I've read many similar books and I've coached and trained financial advisors for 15+ years. Typically these two parts of my life don't come together.

At least not before meeting Jeff Gitterman and reading this book. This book not only provides wonderful insight into the meaning of prosperity, but also gives a good amount of "how-to" for getting your own house (or mind) in order.

I especially love the attention/energy construct. Gitterman introduces us to the concepts of energy and attention as currencies. "Money, however tangible it may seem when we hold a fifty-dollar bill in our hand, is actually an abstract representation of something that seems intangible but has far more substance - energy. Think about it. When someone pays us for our work, what we are really giving them in return is our energy."

Attention is also an important piece of the puzzle. Why? "Because what you choose to put your attention on is where you direct your energy - in all it's many forms, including your time, your creativity and of course, your money."

I found Gitterman's style of writing to be open and warm, not stodgy or new-agey like so many similar titles. Beyond Success is filled with lots of great stories and metaphors that help us integrate these important concepts into our own lives.

This book has many redeeming qualities, with perhaps the most important being that it (along with Gitterman's personal and professional success), remind us that you can do well by doing good.
