Unplayable, February 22, 2010
This review is from: Beyond the Supernatural Rpg (Paperback)
I've owned this game since the day it came out (literally, I was a retailer then, and had my copy pre-ordered). I was extremely excited when BTS2 was announced, thinking that I'd finally get to play Cthulhu-type horror with the Palladium Games rules set. Boy, was I wrong. I got the book, only to find out that it needed 2 more books in order to be playable. According to the owner of the company, they were almost done (one of them even was partially typeset and had all of the art completed). "OK," I though, "I can live with that. D&D needs 3 books too, and if the books are almost done, it can't be too long." So I waited. A couple of months went by, and I still had my hopes up. I read on their forums that you could use material from their other games (predominantly RIFTS), but I didn't want that. I wanted to be able to play THIS game, not some hybrid of a bunch of other games. So, I waited a few more months. Then the months became a year, 2 years, 5 years. Still no word about the REQUIRED books. Now, it's being said that they may never come out. So I've now been sitting on a book for over 5 years, and still cannot play the game. $24 wasted. Do yourself a favor and get a different game.

Really Kevin?, August 20, 2010
This review is from: Beyond the Supernatural Rpg (Paperback)
My brother and I were out shopping for new games a few weeks ago and lo and behold, there was Beyond the Supernatural 2nd ed! I was ecstatic! I played the original back when it first came out. My friends and I had literally years of fun with it.
After getting the book home and out of the plastic, I was vastly disappointed.
Where the hell is the magic? Oh another book..with a release date "To Be Announced".
Oh well, at least the beasties are still in the book. Nope. Only 16 are listed in the 2nd ed book. Of those, 5 are under one entry: Entity. Where are the horrifying badguys from yesteryear? In yet another book...with a release date of "TBA".
No magic and very little monsters were put in the 2nd ed. I cannot stress that enough. The 2nd ed is 1/3 of a game.
The 2nd ed was printed 5 years ago, 5. As in 2005. No other books have been printed as of this date: 8-20-2010.
I love the 1st ed with a passion and this 2nd ed is just not it. Not even close.
TL:DR Save your money. Get the 1st ed.
If you are interested, get the 1st ed. It is a superior product.

Good stuff, March 10, 2010
Hmm. where to start. I really enjoy the premise of this game. Characters are easy to flesh out, and fairly focused. This isn't a limitation as there are many options. Occupations spread things out nicely. The hard cover is sturdy and the artwork is fun. Mostly, the only reason I only gave this four stars, was because they left magic out, promising more books quickly. Well, they aren't out yet as of right now. BtS 2 will take a little thought for conversion into the rest of the megaverse, as the rules on psychic powers differ enough that any character from BtS 2 is definitely a D-bee... But most of the rules fit in just fine. It is an enjoyable addition to my RPG collection.
