About the Author
Joseph N. Valencia was born and raised in California and has lived in the Lompoc Valley for most of his life. He attended Allan Hancock College and the University of Central Florida. Upon leaving the Fire Department, Mr. Valencia has worked in the Aerospace field for the last 25-years and is currently a Logistics Staff Engineer at Lockheed-Martin Space Systems Company. He has written one other book, "The Fire Season" published in 1996. He resides in Lompoc California with his wife (Tracey), and their four children (Nicholas, Ryan, Sara and Daniel).

I remember when this event took place, it was the same year as the Mable-Cone and Hog fires. It was a sad way to end a long and difficult fire season. This book documents and examines the challenges and hazards that occur when you mix two separate command structures (fire and military) and details the tragedy that resulted.
There are a number of spelling errors in the book, which I found to be a distraction.
