5.0 out of 5 stars examination of the life of a mountaineer, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond the Vertical (Hardcover)
This book chronicles the climbing life of a person who was, at his prime, one of the very best rock climbers in the world. His story is told by a series of essays by other top climbers recounting their climbs with him, interspersed with his commentary. It ends with an essay by Kor describing why he gave up serious climbing, and how he redirected his life in a spiritual way. The photos of his climbs are astonishing. An excellent read, giving insight to participation in an extreme sport and lifestyle.

This review is from: Beyond the Vertical (Hardcover)
Beyond the Vertical is a wonderfully done book. The photos jump off the pages. The narative is very well done and anyone who climbs or has ever wanted to climb will love this book.

Layton Kor is the father of modern climbing. His obsession with climbing and exploring the vertical world is legendary.

This book, with photos from his private collection, is one of the most well done books on the beginning of the climbing era that has ever been published.

The photos are crystal clear and his partners accounts of the climbs are vivid and capture the imaginagtion.
