PAGE TURNING BOOK ON THE TRUE WEIRDNESS OF HUMANITY,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond News of the Weird (Plume) (Paperback)
I received this book as a gift and read it in two days. It's written in a short straight forward way much like newspaper articles. I never knew the depth and scale of the human experience to be so odd until I read this book. I recommend it highly for light vacation/beach side reading. It had me laughing & cringing at the same time. I read it to my husband on a road trip to Seattle from L.A. and it kept us entertained.

Weird News, Weird Book?,
By TheVaderCollector (San Juan, Puerto Rico USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beyond News of the Weird (Plume) (Paperback)
The first thing that calls the attention of the customer is the title. Many people don't go beyond that, but to those brave enough to pick the book up, you will find a nice collection of true, but weird, news recollected from around the world. The news are divided in categories, thus making this book excellent for both long and short reading. Consider this book the next time you feel down, it will make you laugh! :)

Offbeat and Amusing,
By K.A.Goldberg (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beyond News of the Weird (Plume) (Paperback)
This is third in the series drawn from the column of strange true tales appearing in various publications (such as The Reader in Chicago). It's all here in hundreds of one-paragraph tales that are alternately hillarious, interesting, heart-breaking and thought-provoking, not to mention downright odd. From outlandish acts to government goof-ups and bizzare sex, these pages keep readers smiling. Examples? There's the Missouri nightclub owner cited for advertising his joint to fraternites as the place to find drunk, horny women. Don't forget the criminals nabbed for trying to steal the rug out of the courtroom during their trial. There's also toilet phones so bureaucrats can answer calls during bathroom breaks, a restuarantuer who hid his money in the oven then accidentally burned it up the next day, and prison escapees captured because they stopped off in the women's wing for sex. It's all here in this slightly dated (1991) but amusing book - one sure to put a smile on your face and give you plenty to talk about.

Pure mindless fun taken from the headlines. Truth certainly is weirder than fiction and Chuck always manages to put together hilarious compilations.
This particular version is dated, but still very funny. |
