Lord Dunsany has recently come back into the limelight after many years of neglect. One of the originators of modern fantasy literature, he was an inspiration to many other great writers of the twentieth century, such as H. P. Lovecraft and J. R. R. Tolkien. The first person to set his fantasy stories in a world completely unrelated to our own, he pioneered a quirky, unusual style that borrows heavily from the Bible and dream imagery. Desiring to create something new, he broke away from the gothic mold that dominated what was then called weird fiction and gave it a vivid dignity all its own. This book covers his earliest published works (including the entire Pegana cycle), published at his own expense, and adds later stories that illustrate his development as a writer. If you are a fan of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Le Guin's Earthsea, you'll love this book.
