Isocort is an excellent adrenal cortex glandular product but you need to understand how and when it should be used.
You should have your diurnal(4 points through out the day) cortisol levels measured to establish if you have a deficiency. If your cortisol level are normal or high you do not want to take this product.
You can order a salivary cortisol test from various labs with out a doctors order. When you do take the test make sure you are not on any other adrenal support, you are not sick and that you are calm and relaxed.
If your cortisol levels are low this can be an excellent product to supplement. You will feel a difference.
You don't need a doctor to do this but if your are not sure then see a Naturopath, DC or holistic medicine provider. They should be able to order the saliva test. They will give you the best guidance for dealing with adrenal fatigue. Unless your symptoms are severe, a typical endocrinologist will likely not treat you and will not endorse such an approach. Unfortunately adrenal fatigue is still not well recognized by much of western medicine.

I have been diagnosed as being hypothyroid. Lots of times one also has weak adrenals with that condition, though the blood tests often will not show this. (I found the Stop The Thyroid Madness website to be a wonderful fountain of info on thyroid plus adrenal help, personally.) It takes time for the Isocort to work. Maybe a month or more. But there are no side effects that I've seen at all. It is a natural product, not a pharmaceutical. In just the couple of weeks that I've been using it I've slowly but surely been getting over extreme fatigue and weakness. However, I also began using more than the 8 tablets they conservatively recommend, as for one thing I am tall and for another I believe I am careful to monitor things like temp rises and dips and pulse, blood pressure, etc. (P.S. After having a doctor listen to me about my adrenal concerns and getting - not blood but - urine testing, I was put on Cortef
which with a prescription is cheaper and also more powerful than Isocort.
But if you can only get Isocort, it is still very good. By the way both Isocort and Cortef may only need to be taken for 6 months or so as the body will heal the adrenals if it is given enough support and not too strong doses of Cortef (20 mg. will not cause dependency). If you feel your heart racing about an hour after taking the meds, it may be not only a sign that you need to decrease your dosages some, but a sign that your adrenals are healing! Rhodiola, Macca tablets and Ashwagandha have also helped many with adrenal problems including me. Oh, and don't forget lots of Vit. C. Doing what you can to decrease your stress levels is of course going to help you heal faster. Be sure to check out Dr. Michael Lam's website, or his Forum on Curezone at Ask Dr. Lam if you even suspect you have adrenal issues.)

Note that the product shipped is the new "Vegetarian" formula that Isocort is now producing. I suppose if you are a vegetarian this may be something you would appreciate. For the rest of us it just means a product that has been working fine, is no longer the same, and may or may not continue to be effective. The product change may not be the fault of the supplier, but they are not making any effort to let people know the formula has changed either. One of the problems with buying supplements on Amazon is that they generally do not post the ingredient label. This means that when a company reformulates its product it isn't until you start questioning why you are no longer responding to the product that you are likely to discover a change. This is exacerbated when the supplier on Amazon also does not post a change in the formula.
Unfortunately I have found the new formula is not as effective as the original. Since I just discovered the problem I don't know yet what alternative products are available. If your health is dependant on receiving an effective product and seem to have had a relapse with the new formula, I wish you the best of luck in finding a replacement. At least now you are informed of the change and may be able to find a suitable replacement.
