Book Description

8 and up3 and upBindi Babes
A third outing for the three sassy sisters – the original Bindi Babes

Amber, Jazz and Geena have finally secured auntie’s engagement to the gorgeous Mr Arora. Now the girls are now vying for the attention of the gorgeous new guy at school, Rocky, who has his own recording studio. Amber thinks she’s bound to capture his heart when she invites him to DJ at Auntie’s wedding, but when the girls go to hear Rocky sing, Amber realizes she’s made a big mistake. It’s going to be a huge headache to work this one out, but if they don’t, every guest at the wedding will have a worse one! Fortunately, a great idea comes from an unexpected source, and the girls bounce back again.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-7–In this final book in the trilogy, Amber, Geena, and Jazz are about to be rid of their strict aunt. Auntie, who came to England from India to look after the girls after their mother's death, is marrying Mr. Arora, the head of their school. Amber narrates from the center of the action as the family dodges the wild wedding-planning fancies of Mr. Arora's own strong-minded auntie. She is also drooling over a new boy at school who thinks he can rap, and her uncle-to-be uses his status to persuade her to befriend Kiran, a bullying new girl at school. Amid the squeals, giggles, and hijinks of Auntie's wedding, Amber learns some lessons about not judging others so quickly. The light banter and romantic theme make for a quick, appealing read. Even those who missed Bindi Babes (2004) and Bollywood Babes (2005, both Delacorte) will find much to enjoy in this final offering: witty dialogue, characters who are fabulously trendy yet compassionate, a peek into British school life, and a warm depiction of contemporary Indian immigrant families.–Wendi Hoffenberg, Yonkers Public Library, NY

From Booklist

Gr. 5-8. Ever since their mother died, Dhillon sisters Jazz, Geena, and Ambajit (Amber) have lived with their auntie, who came to London from India to care for them and their father. But now, Auntie is getting married--an exciting prospect as she's always interfering in the girls' lives. But wedding plans hit a snafu when school and home life collide and divide the family. In school, Rocky, the cute new boy, has the sisters competing for his affections, and Auntie's fiance has an interfering auntie of his own. Readers of the previous volumes in the Dhillon sisters' trilogy, which began with Bindi Babes (2004), will want this, though the book stands well alone. The bubbly read nicely blends universal teen issues with Indian culture and traditions, and Amber's dialogue-driven narrative, filled with descriptive, humorous commentary, captures both the comedies of errors and the girls' growing awareness of the complexities of life.
