Yoga! The word evokes images of people gracefully holding their bodies in positions of masterful flexibility. But alongside this familiar Yoga practice of movement and meditation is an ancient Yoga of sound largely unknown in the West, whose goal is to awaken dormant powers of the mind through the use of music and chant.
The YOGA OF SOUND SERIES will initiate you into this ancient science, and will introduce you to the path of using sound to facilitate emotional balance, vitality, freedom from stress, and an expanded sense of ones inner space.
BHAVA YOGA, developed in the fourteenth century is the practice of using exquisite melodic chanting to experience the rapture associated with connecting to the Divine. Chanting these ancient words unites the expansiveness of the cosmos with the intimacy of the human body, bringing you a sense of inner freedom, liberation, and profound love. Russill Paul masterfully blends the tremendous power of these ancient chants with an ensemble of traditional Indian and contemporary instrumentation.
BHAVA YOGA is an ecstatic listening experience. You can delve even deeper into this tradition and actually begin chanting these powerful mantras along with the recording. The enclosed instructions will teach you the actual mantras as well as meditation techniques to help you gain the most benefit from this unique practice.

As mentioned in another review, almost anything by Russill Paul is great music for the practice of yoga, especially kundalini yoga. This album is GREAT! Russill Paul's life experience as a Benedictine monk in India and his exploration of Vedic music means this isn't some new age heavenly harps thing. This is THE stuff of the Vedas and it moves inside your psyche, gently pulling out the tension and the tugs of resistance. Very, very good stuff.

This music creates enormous senses of space and dimension only to break them down into some sort of limitlessness....if one is familiar with the spiritual backgrounds, Arunachala Shiva will transport you to a place of tranquility and compassion. I can imagine Ramana Maharishi, the ashram and the flow of love as I listen to Arunachala Shiva...This is a CD I can hear infinite numbers of times and yet look forward to hearing it all over again....Russill Paul has made an pristine contribution to those who enjoy the best of music and also appreciate the keenest of philosophies...

Awesome Sounds,
By Michael Jones (Stroudsburg, Pa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bhava Yoga (Audio CD)
I listen to all types of music. One of my favorite types of sounds that Hindu or "Hindi" culture music offers is the vocal sounds that are definitely provided in this CD. The CD consists of men singing chants with mostly stringed instruments. The sound quality is excellent. It is not like some Hindu culture music that is recorded during a public ritual where you may hear other people in the background. The music is both intense and joyful. If you're one to listen to culture music for background music for yoga or dance, this would be an ideal CD. I would not recommend this for meditation as the singing might be distracting. Bhava Yoga, as described in the CD case, is the Yoga of Sound and using the voice to celebrate. This CD clearly does just that and provides joyful melodies for the listener. It is one of my top favorite CD's as it holds a modern type style to its music, therefore enjoyable to all generations.
