4.0 out of 5 stars Looking Good So Far...bhut jolokia chile pepper
Everything came as described.Shipping was fast. FYI ... it took about 17 days or so for the plant to sprout ... little longer than I expected. Can't wait for it to grow and flower and hopefully peppers to eat! I planted 5 out of the 10 seeds and all seeds sprouted :) about the same time. BTW ... I planted the seeds in a Jiffy plant starter and kept it indoors next to...

After reading a couple of other folks' experience with this, I must admit that I thought it was just me:

I purchased the seeds. They came, as indicated above, in a small zip-lock bag with instructions. I went to great pains to germinate and grow these plants.

When they started to take off, I began to worry that they looked a lot like the habaneros I was also growing.

Alas, after months of work and care: regular habaneros one could find/buy anywhere.

I'd like to think we are entitled to a refund or replacement; just don't know how to go aboout it.

Had to give this 1 star, as 0 stars is not an option.

Hirts hurts!

1.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for Hirts...., August 27, 2009
This review is from: Bhut Jolokia Chile Pepper 10 Seeds - Ghost Pepper
I bought from their site directly earlier this year. I've been growing bhuts for a few years now (usually from another distributor) but I was too late in getting them this year. I found Hirts who was out of the bhut plants but had what they described as a 'Chocolate bhut jolokia'. They claim on their site it grows naturally in the Assam area (where bhuts originate). I kind of felt like it was a bit of a scam since I've never heard of a Chocoalate Bhut and figured it was likely a cross breed of a chocolate Habanero and a Bhut. Whelp, I got the plants (they were in very good condition) and grew them and much to my disappointment they've turned out to be just regular Chocolate Habanero plants.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong plant., August 18, 2009
This review is from: Bhut Jolokia Chile Pepper 10 Seeds - Ghost Pepper
I ordered the Bhut Jolokia plant from Hirts Gardens. I got the plant and it was ok and grew very well. But when the peppers started growing I noticed it wasn't the Bhut Jolokia it was a Habanero pepper.
The tag on the plant is for the Bhut Jolokia plant. I am very disappointed in this company.

I will order another Bhut Jolokia plant but not from Hirts Gardens since they can't keep their inventory correct.

I don't recomend buying from them since you don't know what they are going to send you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seeds are extremely difficult to germinate, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Bhut Jolokia Chile Pepper 10 Seeds - Ghost Pepper
What this doesn't tell you is how hard these seeds are to grow. They come in a tiny zip lock bag, sent in an envelope with internet-printed instructions stapled to them that state the following:

.:. Recommended for expert level gardeners
.:. Must be constantly moist - never too dry, never too wet
.:. Seeds can take up to 130 days to germinate
.:. Must be kept in 80 - 90 degrees F for entire period

So, if you're able to meet all those criteria, have at it. Otherwise, don't spend the $12, it'll be a waste.

1.0 out of 5 stars RIP-OFF!!!, DO NOT BUY, NOT BHUT JOLOKIA, August 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bhut Jolokia Chile Pepper 10 Seeds - Ghost Pepper
I am very disappointed. The peppers I grew were not the Bhut Jolokia, but rather regular Habaneros.

After reading the other reviews, I now realize that Hirts has screwed over many other people with their lies.

I believe that they are sending us all habanero seeds either assuming that we would not notice the difference or banking on the fact it takes months to figure out pepper you have.

I am reporting this to Amazon and Hirts and suggest everyone else that was ripped-off to do the same. I would also like to give Hirts a negative 10 but i would only allow giving 1 star.

Boy I wish I would have read your review. I did the exact same thing the peppers started to grow and I new they looked way to much like habaneros, sure enough they are habaneros i'm so glad that i spent 4 months waiting for bhut jolokias and I got habaneros that I could have gone 2 blocks down the street and bought them at gaint eagle. Thanks hirts for your crappy product. I'm pissed this sucks I give hirts a big negative 10 and ill be sure to never buy anything from Hirts again and ill be sure to tell my friends and hopefully many people read this and stop before buying anything from hirts. I dont want a refund or a replacement since the replacement would probably be a jalapeno plant. I would like the 4 months of growing that i lost back though... ya thanks again hirts...hahahahahahahahaha I'm so mad!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware, these are not bhut jolokias, August 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bhut Jolokia Chile Pepper 10 Seeds - Ghost Pepper
Bought these at the beginning of the season. I planted them as soon as I could and anxiously awaited the results. They recently began to produce fruit and they are not bhut jolokias. They are in fact ordinary habaneros. Pretty firey, yes, but not what I wanted.

Lesson learned: Use caution when buying seeds online. You may go through a lot of trouble and be rather disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Paid for Bhut, got Habanero!, August 10, 2010
This review is from: Bhut Jolokia Chile Pepper 10 Seeds - Ghost Pepper
Just came in from my garden and was a little concerned, so I came on here to see if anyone else was having the same problem I was. You see, I was confused because my Bhut Jolokia peppers look nothing like any I've seen on the internet.
In fact, they look just like the Red Habanero's I grew last year! Both plant and pepper look completly different than Bhut Jolokias are supposed to. Sure enough, I find that several others have had the same problem. We were victims of the ol' Hirt's switcheroo!

What a rip off! I have waited for for months and months for these to grow, and now have..Habanero's! All thanks to this unscrupulous seed company which is selling cheap habanero seeds at inflated Ghost Pepper prices.
Very disappointed in Hirt's. No one should ever do this to anyone.
Wish I could give negative points.

After many months of germination, growing and polinating, these turn out to be just regular old habaneros. Very disappointed.
