4.0 out of 5 stars Great Follow-up to Hard to Swallow
Vanilla Ice has come a long way since Ice Ice Baby and his subsequent fall from grace.

Hard to Swallow was quite possibly the best melding of Rap and Rock to date, and Bi-Polar expands on his talents by claiming to be two CD's in one (One Rap, and One Rap-Rock).

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great
I'd admit that I like V-Ice. He's not bad at all, and quite frankly, he's got some ability, especially on who he brings in to produce his work. His pure rap stuff is only saved by his guest stars, but when he feels good on a track that's metalcore, he lets loose and starts a show. I will say that some of his songs are cool, especially The Weed Song.

Many people won't even by this album because it IS Vanilla Ice, but those that don't will miss out on a great album and nice musical style.

Songs like Mudd Munster, Nothing is Real, and Insane Killas show how much talent this often called "no-talent" rapper actually has. You'll be suprised.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bipolar is worth checking out., October 30, 2001

Bipolar is a pretty damn good offering from V-Ice, especially from the hardcore / heavy metal point of view. The first 8 songs on this album totally rock. If you didn't know beforehand, you would probably think you are listening to Pantera. V-Ice really gets down on these first 8 tracks with some surprising new vocal talents never heard before on his albums. It is definatly worth checking out and probably won't dissappoint. It definatly didn't dissappoint me.

The new Vanilla Ice cd shows both sides of the Iceman. He's a little bit hip-hop a little bit rap and roll. Some people will dismiss this as another attempt for Ice to make a comeback but before you judge it...listen. It's a very competent album in both the heavy and hip hop sides. Ice even tests his ability in the singing department adding some crooning in the choruses early on. All in all it's a really well put together album and has a ton of special guests like ICP and former Slipknot member Josh Brainard. Take Ice for what he is now, not what he was then.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is just as good as "To The Extreme"!, June 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Bi-Polar (Audio CD)
This album is just as good as his "To The Extreme" album from over a decade back. The rock side is okay, but the rap CD recalls what made his first album so big. Lots of funky songs and catchy music and lyrics once again! And he even has Chuck D of Public Enemy and members of the Wu-Tang Clan on his album! So there are some people from hip-hop that like Ice versus some of the haters! Vanilla Ice actually sounds good trading off his lyrics with Chuck D on that song. One song had this interesting line--"I paved the way for Eminem." So Ice wants to get back what's his! Eminem hasn't given Ice his due props in interviews, even though he doesn't like Ice's music, but he really should now! I think it's quite impressive that Ice made this album, even though the rap scene is more competitive now. Most of this recent album's reviews on Amazon are that good, so people are still following Ice's career more than a decade later!

This release is total class. It shows us what the ICEMAN is all about these days, with no weak flows in site. The rock portion of the CD is heavy and reminded me somewhat of Papa Roach. The rap section of the CD will definatley split yo wigs. Get it now, you wont be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ONE GREAT ALBUM!, December 9, 2001
This review is from: Bi-Polar (Audio CD)
This album will satisfy both types of Ice fans, the ones that liked the rap-metal of "Hard To Swallow" will enjoy "Skabz", and the fans that enjoyed the more hardcore rap of "Mind Blowin'" will enjoy "Bomb Tha System".

This double-CD really delivers. Ice has fully redeemed himself IMO.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Tale of Critics vs. the Entertainer, January 6, 2003

This is a good album - it's solid - not groundbreaking but solid.

So what is this Vanilla Ice/V-Ice hatred thang? Well critics can be effete snobs to put it bluntly. And this guy is the classic type that the snobby kind of critic loves to hate; (dont get me wrong - there's definetely a place for critics and there are plenty of good ones). Ice Man is an Entertainer; he's pliable - the style he started with fell out of favor. So he keeps looking for a style that will click with with todays public. He's never going to have a 17 million album seller again - but then neither will Michael Jackson - there's Way too much luck involved in catching a pop culture wave like that - you know being in the right place at the right time so to speak. There's ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with being an entertainer - Sammy Davis Jr. was one of the great ones - But lot's of critics are going to hate you if are not an "ARTIST" - especially if you're a best selling Pop Entertainer. They have to show us how smart and refined they are; they're not going to be fooled. So they miss the entertainer's whole gift, or at least they're constitutionaly unable to appreciate it. Ice Man's not an innovator, he's sort of derivative, but he's very good at it and brings his own originalty to it within those limits - he does have something to say. This is supposed to be about the album but pretty much everythings already been said - it is quite a good album - check it out with mp3's (I do not endorse unlicenced mp3's, wink), and if you like it, buy it - you decide for yourself not the critics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, April 30, 2005

Vanilla Ice is a great artist. He is forever in the shadow of his Ice Ice Baby hit. Everybody liked that one didn't they? Well now why is everybody hating on him? I say if you have not heard any of his new material give it a shot. He is actually really talanted. His beats are tight and he produced, wrote and mixed the entire album by himself. If you want to get a look at a personal side of the ice man check out VH1's Remaking Vanilla Ice. It comes on May 1st. They are working to completly remake him and give him a new sound. Should be pretty good. His new album comes out in summer 2005. I guarantee you will be hearing him on the radio soon! But check out Bi-Polar and Hot sex. You will like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars SKabzz Bomb the System, October 26, 2001
By
dustin (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bi-Polar (Audio CD)
Sometimes it seems if he would just change his name people would listen to his music. Bi-polar is a "double cd" one hardcore[Skabz] one hiphop [Bomb the System] but sometimes its impossible to tell the difference.

Finally Rob lashes back at the fake M&M. The guest appearance list on this cd is awesome, from ICP to Chuck D!

Solid hardcore with so much agression it will prick the ears of those around. The hiphop side lays old school/new school styles together for a lethal dose.

Ice should no longer be held back by his early jump into the industry because this cd is a revival of solid music!
