3.0 out of 5 stars Works ok, but NOT made in Italy
Bialetti apparently contracts this item out to India and is marked on on the box with an add-on sticker. The unit works ok, but the workman ship is shoddy with filed welds showing and low quality plastic handles.

I am thrilled beyond words! I so love this little pot! It is gorgeous and so able to produce great coffee. I was able to successfully make a mocha that far surpassed any I have spent $4-5 on. This little pot is just so cool! First, its adorable, actually quite a beautiful piece. Its heavy stainless steel, has a great feel in your hands. Very well made, with the cute Bialetti logo engraved on side. Second, its extremely easy to use. Third, it makes a great cup of strong, delicious coffee! Fourth, its very VERY easy to clean. Here's how I make the best mocha and latte: follow directions on your pot for filling the bottom with water, fill the coffee filter with Dunkin Donuts ground coffee (yes, all you coffee snobs, DD coffee worked fabulously!) level with your finger, but DO NOT TAMP. Dust off edge of reservoir, screw on top part of pot. Place on med/hi NOT HIGH, heat and be careful to situate so you dont burn the handle. Stay close, cuz in about 5min it will be done. Meanwhile, place 1C milk in micro for 1.5min, then place in the Nissan stainless steel handpump frother. Pump until milk is sufficiently frothed. Add 2Tbl chocolate syrup in mugs (I used Hersheys Dark, great results) When your coffee is done, pour between the 2 mugs, then top off with about 1/3 mug of frothed milk in each. Such a simple pleasure. Too clean, just rinse with hot water and wipe dry. I'm in love with this pot!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a great cup of espresso, February 18, 2005
By
I must say this pot makes the best espresso. Use a dark roast bean and follow the instructions. I have used a few machines, with and without pumps and the old fasion way is by far the best. On my electric range between medium and medium high it takes about 20 minutes to brew, worth the wait! Then relax and enjoy a great cup of coffee. Nice to have a taste of biscotti handy or if the mood serves you a taste of your favorite liqueur. Cleans up easy enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best on the Market, September 22, 2005
This review is from: Bialetti 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Percolator (Kitchen)
I've tried the aluminum Bialetti Espresso Maker and although it works well, this one is superior. Worth the splurge--it's very well constructed, the flavor of the espresso is pure, and the elegant redesign of the espresso maker draws a lot of compliments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Espresso, March 22, 2006

This is a beautiful little espresso maker that makes great coffee. It's just that simple. Everything works well, is constructed well, easy to clean, and comes with a really funny badly translated manual (don't worry, the instructions are still clear, just funny).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best expresso Pot, September 28, 2006

Bought this to replace my at least 10 year old Bialetti aluminum pot, and I am not disappointed. It makes the best expresso ever and is easy to clean. I bought this along with the Aerolatte "to go" milk frother, and have been making great cappuccinos with skim milk. It is also very pretty to look at; I love this pot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful home espresso maker, November 14, 2006
This review is from: Bialetti 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Percolator (Kitchen)
If I knew making esperesso at home was going to be this easy I would have bought a machine like this years ago!!! It's so easy to make great espresso with this stove top machine. The quality seems excellent to me and the brewing process as well as the cleaning of the machine has always been very easy. The cups that "6 cups" refers to are espresso cups or shots not full 8 oz. cups so if you drink a lot of espresso or want this to simply brew strong coffee (or teecino, a coffee alternative I often use) you'll want to be aware of the true amount of the what is brewed. However if you just want a few espresso shots, this is perfect. I find that I can make one XL espresso drink or two smaller ones with this espresso maker.

I love the elegant look it has sitting on my stove top as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Moka pot, February 20, 2008
I've owned a Bialetti Class stovetop espresso maker (3-cup) for 4 years now and it continues to perform perfectly. As far as moka pots go, you can't ask for better than this. The quality is much better than the aluminium pots you can buy, and the 18/10 stainless looks practically new after 4 years of daily (often twice daily) use. The only part of this pot that wears out is the rubber O-ring that seals the upper and lower halves, but i've only had to replace mine once so far and they cost next to nothing.

This pot makes an excellent espresso, second only to a professional machine or a fully automatic in-home machine such as those made by Saeco or Jura etc. Use fresh beans and grind them, and experiment with types and roasts to find your favourite. It doesn't give you a 'crema' like a machine, but the flavour of the rich dark espresso is great!

I find the 3-cup a good size for one person or to share, while the 4-cup is best for two. Generally, cleaning is simply a matter of running water over the top, bottom and filter and setting aside to dry. Occasionally it is a good idea to soak the pot in water plus some bi-carbonate of soda (baking soda) - it will leave it looking and smelling like new.

Overall, well well well worth the money!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and wonderful, December 29, 2006

This review is from: Bialetti 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Percolator (Kitchen)
I bought this for my wife as a gift. Works exactly as it says it does. It cleans easy and is very small, so it takes up little space. The espresso is great and seems to work with any kind of ground coffee. The only problem with it that I have found is that you have to screw it together tightly. My wife isn't as strong as I am, and has trouble getting it tight enough. If it is too loose, steam escapes and it looses pressure - most of the time it still brews fine though. Those with arthritis or weak wrists like the the elderly may find it too difficult to screw down tight enough.

It brews 6 shot glasses full of espresso, (7 if you count the dregs). This is enough for me to have my quad-shot mochas, and leave my wife with enough for her tastes.

Filled to just even with the safety valve with hot or warm tap water, then placed on the burner of my electric stove set to "high", it takes 5 minutes to brew the pot. If I use cold water it takes another minute or so. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes espresso or espresso drinks like mochas. This is a very simple way to brew excellent espresso and has none of the fuss of those fancy espresso machines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little expresso pot!, January 9, 2007
This concerns the Bialetti Class 4 cup expresso pot. After becoming addicted to the much too expensive Starbuck's caramel macchiato but living too far away to have one daily, I happily discovered this small expresso pot. The Amazon reviews sounded encouraging so I ordered one. It's amazing! I use sugarfree vanilla syrup, nonfat milk (frothed with the Aerolatte milk frother, another wonderful product) and sugarfree caramel sauce and when combined with the expresso made with the small pot I have an even better tasting drink than Starbuck's in less than 3 minutes. I like it so well that I've ordered the Bialetti Class 10 cup for when I have guests. Both are made in Italy of heavy gauge stainless steel and are very handsome. Incidentally, my husband bought a Bialetti Musa 6 cup for me but I had to return it. It leaked around the seal when making the coffee. It was made in India and although it looked very nice, the steel was a lighter gauge or it was possibly made of aluminum, I don't remember for certain, and I didn't like the handle or lid opener button nearly as well as the Class version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Economic & Easyish Espresso @ Home, November 15, 2007

First of all I would like to note a few things about the company that I purchased this item through: J&R Music World. While my moka pot did arrive in little time, the condition of it was disappointing. I'm pretty sure that the one I received was a return from someone else because there was molded/burt coffee marks on the inside and stuck to the rings where you screw the two pieces together. This was pretty freaking GROSS, but I cleaned it up and it looks mostly good as new...except for a spot that I could not get entirely cleaned. They need to check their products more thoroughly when returned. GRR. But I did not want to go through the trouble of returning it and waiting for a new one, because I wanted to make some espresso!! Oh, and as someone else mentioned, it is, in fact, made in INDIA and not Italy. Very misleading.

This said, I really like the moka pot. I've gotten numerous compliments on its beauty. And as far as making espresso, it has been quite easy. Just follow the instructions that come with it, plain and simple. The six "cup" makes enough for my roommate and I to have two-three shots each. I use the Illy blend for moka pots and it is pretty good. I am gonna try out some others after it is gone though, cuz it ended up costing $18 for one little can (w/ s&h). I also purchased a hand/wand milk frother and tomorrow I'm gonna try my luck at cappuccinos...exciting!! Make sure you take apart every piece of the pot for cleaning, so that coffee grinds or liquid don't get stuck anywhere and mold...it will affect how your espresso tastes and is hard to clean off after the fact.
