5.0 out of 5 stars Stainless Steel Espresso Maker--Bialetti, May 9, 2008

I got this espresso maker today. I made my first cup of coffee with it almost immediately. It was as good as Starbuck's espresso, and I am pleased with it. There is only one small drawback, but it is not unique to this product: it does not cover a small burner on the stove and has to be set on the burner so the handle doesn't sit over the hot part. This is a minor fault. What is nice about this pot is that it has 'aesthetic appeal'. It's a pretty little pot, and it works well, so I'll be using it a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warning: use the right coffee, June 23, 2011
This review is from: Bialetti Class Stovetop Espresso Maker 6 Cup 06854 (Kitchen)
I've had the 6-cup stainless for about a month. The results have been mixed. When it has worked, it has produced excellent espresso. When it doesn't work the water does not rise into the upper pot, but stays in the bottom and eventually steams out through the pressure valve. I contacted Bialetti customer service to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. They were very helpful, but in the end determined that I was doing everything right, so it should work. I believe it's the fineness of the coffee grind. If it's too fine, the coffee clogs the filter disk, preventing the water from rising. As I wanted to make espresso, I first used Illy espresso machine grind, then switched to Illy drip grind. Neither worked at all. But a French roast coffee which I grind myself works every time. The instructions do suggest not using too fine a grind, but they should be clearer about just how fine it should be. I recommend buying the whole beans so you can experiment with the grind. Also the label is a bit misleading. The six cup model produces about three espresso shots. I think that when I find just the right coffees this coffee maker will produce dependably excellent espresso.

Very pleased with our Moka pot. Glad we sprung for the stainless steel. Perfect for ice lattes. Mine with soy, hubbys with normal milk. I begged my hubby for it for a long time telling him how useful it would be... Now he uses it more than me. The lid is a little cheap and was bent in shipping. Not a big deal however due to the fact it has nothing to do with making a good espresso! Great purchase and pleased with the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas coffee, January 21, 2012

My 25 yr. old son was at a friends, friends house and said he had a cup of coffee that was
'an event'. He drew a picture of what the coffee pot looked like. I went to 5 kitchen type stores
over the holidays to find it; to no avail. Alas, Amazon had it! (dah) He was and is thrilled by the
ritual and pure pleasure of this coffee experience over and over again. The wide base and the
covered handle are simple pluses. A win, win for us both.

First quality especially coming from an aluminum stovetop. Easy to use and clean with great espresso. I would recommend this product. Have been using for about a month.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like it better than my $350 machine, May 27, 2011

Used this for about a month now. Very easy to use and clean, looks great with minimal effort and daily use. Takes about 5 mins. To brew. The coffee while not quite espresso (no crema) is rich, flavorful and I can get it nice and strong without bitterness. Once or twice I have overdone it and it tasted like cigarette butts but that is operator error. I promptly put away my Starbucks Saeco Sirena (beautiful, expensive and works when it feels like it) and will be getting rid of it entirely. This coffee is just as good as that was on a good day, and with all those parts it had fewer good days than bad. Here's to old school low tech! Would buy again and might.

My high school students and I have a blast making different drinks from the espresso that we make. The mocha latte shakes are the best!
