5.0 out of 5 stars In love with Mia
Initially, I bought a cheap $15 Italian coffee maker. The coffee / espresso was amazing, but the pot was cheaply made- leaked coffee while brewing, was difficult to clean, etc.

Since I absolutely fell in love with the taste of the coffee, I decided to purchase the Bialette. At almost 4 times the price I expected a better product - and that's exactly what I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not value for money
Well it works. After a bit of a learning curve about how much water the pot will tolerate, I can certainly make a good cup of coffee with this. My main complaint is about the quality of the pot. When it arrived, the lid was askew, the hinge not being straight. I had to adjust it so that it sits straight, but it still isn't a good fit. Considering the price, it's...

Since I absolutely fell in love with the taste of the coffee, I decided to purchase the Bialette. At almost 4 times the price I expected a better product - and that's exactly what I received. Beautiful, heavy, mirror coated stainless steel. Flawless in design - It has the feel of NASA engineering. In operation, no splattering of coffee. In clean up, no more brushes or difficult cleaning - a simple rinsing with tap water was all that was required. I couldnt be more happy!

Looks like everyone will be getting a Bialetti Mia for Christmas next year!

I had a cheap Maxim espresso maker that plugs in. Lately it hasn't been putting out a whole cup of espresso, so I fell back to a crusty old aluminium stovetop model. Despite all my efforts, I couldn't come up with a decent, non-bitter cup of espresso. I searched online for a stovetop, stainless model (no more corroding alum for me). This pretty one came up and the price was right (have been considering a high end pump model, $350+), so I ordered it based on these reviews.
Just had my first cup and wow! smooth, rich espresso came forth. Very robust, not harsh or bitter and this was with the same beans that were bitter in the other two makers. This is a beautifully designed and crafted device with a brilliant finish rivaling any costly kitchen equipment made. It has a nice heft as well. There was a small learning curve when I made my first cup as I thought the water wasn't boiling up to the top. There looked like there was hardly any coffee until I poured it and got the whole cup to fill.
Strongly recommended...it may have saved me $500 plus!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally charmed, October 21, 2007

I actually put away my drip coffee maker and use this exclusively. I love it. I can have great tasting americano and the charm that goes with this little Italian guy as well. I enjoy the ritual of making it. There is nothing numinous about making coffee with a drip maker.

What is really great is that you can also treat yourself to lattes, machiatos, or any espresso drink whenever you want. It makes an awesome brew that seems to have less acid and no burnt taste. Everything I've made is smooth and delicious. I love the thick, caramel colored brew.

I would definitely recommend this to any coffee lover

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for electric stoves, November 11, 2009
By
This review is from: Bialetti Mia, 6 Cup
I have an electric stove, so the wide bottom of the Mia works great with burners that are much larger than most stove top espresso makers. I use this almost daily. My only complaint is that the top half is a little hard to clean. Since it's all stainless (including the handle) it's dishwasher safe, which I need to do about once a month.

Not worth the money.

I have had other stovetop espresso makers so I am comparing this to previous ones I have owened. Maybe I got a bad one but from day one the screen and washer fall out every time I wash it. It leaks from the side when I try to pour no matter how tightly I seal it so I have to pour it over the sink. The handle gets incredibly hot. The coffee tastes fine so no complaints there. I will not buy another one of these.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work for me, August 23, 2008

I have an electric stove, so maybe this works better on gas stoves. My coffee took over 20 minutes to make, and then it tasted terrible! The bottom of it was kind of burned as well. I have had two other espresso makers, including a stainless steel one, and they both worked fine, so it's not like I don't know how to use one. I would not recommend this maker.

1.0 out of 5 stars I cannot get this to work, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Bialetti Mia, 6 Cup
I received the Bialetti Mia pot today and I cannot get it to work. The instructions are very basic. I don't know how hot to turn on the stove, how much coffe to use. I have tried four different times at different temperatures and coffee never goes into the top of the pot. When I take the pot apart there is coffee at the bottom of the pot in the tank but I thought this was supposed to steam into the top to pour. Plus the coffee in the bottom of the tank looks nasty!
