Then I saw this little coffee pot advertised, and I got it right away. After I got the knack of putting on the pressure pump, it has delivered for me. In a jiffy, I have the best capuccino or latte at a fraction of my former expense. And it is every bit as good as I got in a coffee shop-- the frothing is excellent. I am so glad I saw this machine and ordered it. My calculation was that it will pay for itself in less than 60 days. This has been my happiest purchase this year. So indulgent, yet so smart to do. And because I bought caffeine-free expresso... I have my drinks day or night... whenever I want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cappuccinos, SO easy!, February 16, 2008
I received the Bialetti 1-Cup Electric Mukka Express Cappuccino Maker after a very disappointing experience with Krups latest item. Upon returning Krups for a full refund, I was pleasantly surprised by this small machine. What makes this machine so great is:
1-it is easy to use, just add water, espresso grounds, and milk (will even froth fat-free milk!)
2-plug in the base and push the button, then just go about your business as this little miracle brews and froths a tasty surprise for you (it takes 5-6 mintues)
3-easy to pour and wash. No small parts that will break or get lost and the parts seem to be VERY durable
4-the design is very handsome and easy to store on your counter top until next use since it is small thus not taking up much room

I would recommend this product to any casual coffee/cappuccino drinker who enjoys a tasty brew during the week and doesn't want to fork out money to trot to "4 Bucks"

When I first bought this machine I was really excited. I owned the Bialetti stovetop version, which is very popular in Italy.

After TWO months of using this, my machine began to get moldy at the very bottom and the top. Basically, it started to oxidize. I hand wash this machine along with my stovetop, so I was following the directions without any issues. I finally called Bialetti and they suggested using baking soda with water, and then vinegar. Nothing helped and it started to smell.

I was told to send it back to them. After wasting $10 shipping it to CA, the lady told me that I used a dishwasher and therefore was not qualified under warranty. I live in an old townhouse apartment, with no dishwasher. She then started to say that they don't cover oxidization. Buyer beware, I've only owned this for a few months and basically the warranty is useless! Aluminum + water + time = bound to happen to any machine.

Pros: Quick cappuccino, cheaper than some other versions, small, easier once you get the hang of it.

Cons: Hard to disassemble to wash (you're supposed to do it immediately to prevent oxidation, but that's hard considering the bottom is hot). It spills coffee if you don't assemble it correctly. You are supposed to use WATER ONLY. No soap. According to many reviews and Williams Sonoma representatives (who also sells this brand), the inside does eventually get black and can smell, so lots of maintenance required.

My advice is to get a milk frother. This machine seams cheaper than a cappuccino machine, but in reality you're throwing your money away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but doesn't make a whole lot of coffee!, April 9, 2008
This is a great way to make your own cappuccinos at home, without having to fiddle with an espresso machine and a separate frother. It's perfect for people who like to have coffee once or twice a day, and I especially like that I can turn it on and leave it to do its work as I get ready for work. However, it is VERY important to follow the instructions...or you'll end up with a mess on your kitchen counter. (I've found that you need to screw the top part on very tightly!) Also, it produces approximately *one* small cup at a time, which could be a deciding factor for some people.

1.0 out of 5 stars just wanna HOT latte, January 28, 2009
By
walter j. wall (Bradenton, FL USA) - See all my reviews
I watched the instruction video, read the instructions, I followed step by step. I can follow directions, but this was a challenge. In about 15 tries, I had 3 successful cups. It seems simple enough, water to the mark, espresso in the basket, milk to the mark, close the lid, push the center button and press the on button. It leaked most of the time (coffee all over the counter) sometimes the red operating light wouldn't come on (no brewing), sometimes no froth, mostly luke warm latte. Cleaning: Wait an hour until you can seperate the top from the bottom (too hot to handle), bottom water portion started to corrode. I contacted customer service at Bialetti (the 30 day money back had expired). I sent the unit back to Bialetti and they sent a replacement but it was the stove top model, not the electric. Next step, send the stove top unit back and received the correct replacement 10 days later. Wait, there's more: first batch in new unit leaked, second batch not much froth and luke warm. I think I've had enough. I'm going to ask for my money back from Bialetti. Stay tuned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice work. Get one if you need it., September 23, 2010

This review is from: Bialetti Mukka Express Electric Cappuccino Maker (Kitchen)
I use this Electric Mukka Express in Afghanistan where there is war and dust. It works great with either straight espresso or a cappuccino. No problems with leaking. Must use Lavazza or Segafredo or Illy or any Italian type stovetop espresso grind for best results. These coffees are a unique blend for the right taste, and of course they are ground very fine. Polished finish looks good. Reasonably easy to clean. Only drawback is you can only make one drink at a time (takes a while to cool down so you can clean it out and prepare another drink). The cappuccinos are not piping hot, but hot enough. I use long life milk in Afghanistan, but a fresher, thicker milk would probably work better. Recommended machine. Worth the money for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it, August 6, 2009

Follow the directions, don't over tighten or overfill, and follow the other folks' tip about a small amount of oil on the gasket between the base and the top. Mine has not overflowed/leaked once. Plus, if it were any hotter, I'd burn my tongue. So I don't know what the other people are using, but my cold (the bottle is frosted) milk was plenty hot by the end. Not a ton of froth, but on par with most average chain coffee shops. Biggest complaint would be that no, it doesn't make a lot of coffee-about 2/3 of your standard American coffee cup. But considering it's made in Europe and we Americans generally like bigger portions of everything... not too surprising. All in all, pretty nice for a small, non labor intensive do-dad for my office.

I love this expresso maker. I purchased it so I could take it with me when I travel. Everyone in the group was loving my coffee versus the one the hotel provided.

I had read reviews about it being difficult to get just right, but having purchased a Bialetti Easy Caffe electric espresso maker two years ago, I was already familiar with the base product. It can be a little inconsistent at times, in that if you get the coffee basket too full it will not give you a full cup, and from time to time it is not as hot, but 90% of the time it makes a great cappuccino. It's cut my Starbucks bill from $40/month to $10/month. I got it through Amazon from [...], and their price was only $90. Other places had it for $140. I received it in about a week. I'm very pleased.

1.0 out of 5 stars A decent cappuccino after 10th attempt, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Bialetti Mukka Express Electric Cappuccino Maker (Kitchen)
Does it make a decent cappuccino? Yes, I am drinking one right now. Ask me how many attempt it took me to get here - I would say about 10... The machine is not easy to work at first, but once you get the knack of putting the pressure valve on, remembering to press it down (if you don't you'll end up with a very cold latte), figuring out how much water to pour in (I find putting 1/2 cup than the instruction tells you to do ends up in a mess on the counter) etc., you will end up with a decent cup of coffee. The result is not better than the one from the coffee shop down the road (and definitely colder) and it does cost $3 a shot for the first 50 days - I am on my 5th one, I'll let you know if it still works after 50.
Bottom line - if you have patience to read the instructions 5 times before you attempt to operate the machine and if you are OK with a small, not terribly hot cappuccino (I like mine Tall and scorching hot), this machine is for you. Otherwise, just get BODUM electric espresso maker and their milk frother and go for it, it will take you as much time to make your BIG, HOT cappuccino (even if you boil milk on the stove), as trying to assemble and operate MUKKA.
