Great Espresso!!,
By
This review is from: Bialetti Musa 10-Cup Stovetop Percolator (Kitchen)
This makes great espresso!! Here are a few tips to make a perfect cup of espresso: Remember to fill the water just below the safety valve. Too much water can prevent the valve from working properly. It's kinda like a pressure cooker. Too much water can cause problems.
Don't overfill the funnel with too much coffee. Too much coffee in the funnel can cause the coffee not to brew properly. I fill it just below the top edge of the funnel. Set your burner to medium or medium low and watch it carefully. Don't walk away because it can get ahead of you. Besides, watching the coffee brew is kinda cool ;) Keep working at it and you'll get the hang of it and pretty soon, you'll LOVE it! I use mine everyday and have had it for a few years now and I haven't had a single problem with it. Remember it is NOT the same espresso that you find at Starbucks. This makes traditional Italian espresso. ** UPDATE 4/7/2011: I'm still using this espresso maker. It operates perfectly. Like I said in my original review, make sure you do not have your burner on too high. Keep it on medium to medium low. You can adjust the burner if you need to depending on the make and model of your unit. I've noticed that several reviewers have had problems with their maker. I've never had issues with mine. Perhaps their burner was on too high at the time and they didn't realize it. This maker reacts like a pressure cooker. With a pressure cooker, you have to keep an eye on your burner. Keep the heat low and it will work perfectly. Always check your unit to make sure the gasket is okay. If it's cracked, it needs to be replaced.

Like everyone else I dislike the tab on the top to open this thing up, but you don't need to do it much. Overall it's a nice machine for what I was trying to accomplish: greater volume and stainless steel. It's puzzling to me that the vessel at the top holds so much more than the bottom, so it's hard to judge when it is done because the top will only be about 1/2 full and it doesn't make as much noise as my last espresso maker so sometimes I wait too long and other times there is still water in the bottom when I'm cleaning it. But when I get it right the espresso is very good and I am pretty pleased with this product. I hope this helps you. I was greatly helped in selecting this one from the reviews of others.

I have just replaced my old Bialetti stove-top after 16 years of quality coffee. If you know your espresso then you won't be reading this but otherwise you can not go past this brand and quality. Stainless steel DOES make a difference in taste and life of the product despite what they might tell you at the coffee shops. Despite this machine being marketed as a peculator it really does produce espresso coffee if you do everything right ie fine coffee grind and fill your filter and tamp it lightly to ensure the real thing. Cheers Amazon, your price was the same as the downtown place here in New Zealand who were out of stock.

Watch out!,
This review is from: Bialetti Musa 10-Cup Stovetop Percolator (Kitchen)
I have been making espresso for years and was really happy when I was able to find the Bialetti 6-cup stainless steel espresso maker. I've used it hundreds of times with no problems except that it doesn't hold enough for more than 2 people to have a good cup of coffee.
When I found out my friends are coming on a roadtrip with me in Europe I purchased the 10-cup machine. While visiting in California, I used my friend's 10-cup Bialetti several times. The LAST TIME almost killed me! I had just checked to see if the coffee was finished and decided to give it a few more seconds as it was still bubbling up really good. I turned around, took one step and the machine exploded. The small pieces hit me in the back and the large section flew through two rooms. I was in shock as I surveyed my friend's newly remodeled, beautiful kitchen completely covered in espresso and grounds. Completely! Two rooms covered and part of the living room affected as well. The microwave above the stove had a gash in it which would have been in my face a second earlier. All the stainless steel parts were bent by the explosion. A friend helped me frantically scrub and we worked for three hours to try to rescue the beautiful new cabinets and paint and everything else in the two rooms. The ceiling was completely ruined and had to be repainted. I'm very careful each time I use a pressure coffee maker to prevent just such an accident. What happened? From what I read it is no use writing to Italy and trying to get some kind of compensation. I do feel very fortunate to have not been killed or seriously injured and I will continue making espresso, but hope this experience is not repeated by someone else.

Coffee shops just lost my business!,

My choice after dinner coffee is a double shot espresso. After buying the 6 cup (demitasse) Musa, it not only goes well with my kitchen decor, but also produces the equivalent of two double shot espressos from your local mega-coffee shop.
With a splash of half an half and a teaspoon of sweetener, I have he same product in a simple package that costs three times less that the traditional espresso machine. Close enough, good enough. I'm happy!

If you love the taste of espresso that can only be experienced at an expensive establishment or in Italy! you will enjoy having the Bialetti Musa to splurge every morning and some evenings as well.

and I love it.
Coffee even with cream (skim?) on top! And test is very good. Before I used to make coffee in aluminum coffee maker and I can't really explain that, but trust me - the test is different (better) in this one.

Dangerous Product,
By
This review is from: Bialetti Musa 10-Cup Stovetop Percolator (Kitchen)
Do not buy a Bialetti product! It is possible for the stovetop espresso maker to explode, damage your appliances, make a hole in your ceiling, and maybe seriously injure you if standing too close. When making a claim to the manufacturer, they will require you to spend serious postage to return the product to Italy, ignore requests for closure, and prolong the process. That's exactly what happened to us with the Stainless Steel Musa espresso maker. We are still waiting for compensation...over 8 months later.

I have used this type of product in the past so I don't think it was incorrect usage of the product. On my first use of the product the top blew off of the coffee maker with a very explosive force. It sprayed grounds and hot water up to 20 feet from the stove. Luckily no one was near it when it happened. I reported this to Bialetti but have received no response. I would be wary of all of these types of products.
