After an unfortunate glass soda bottle explosion, and using the guest bath towels in a panic...we were looking to replace the guest bath towels with something more to our liking. I searched for something inexpensive and good looking that would match the bath better than the previous JCPenney specials we received as a gift.

I selected these towels for 1) cost--$9.99 for the bath and hand towel combo special 2) color & pattern--linen with a basketweave like pattern 3) all cotton!

Upon receiving them, they were more beautiful than I expected--the towels were VERY soft and snuggly right out of the package, the color was perfect for our bath, were a nice size, they washed up great--some very slight shrinkage of the long-edge happened in wash/dry, but no worse than our other towels (also, I do not use fabric softener in our washer or dryer). The pile is not as tight since they are a less expensively made towel, but still feel very very soft! They absorb as well as they are soft--no smearing water around until that sheen is worn off, they worked great on first use!

Final thoughts and advice... What I thought was a basketweave pattern is more of a chevron pattern; the chevron is more noticeable on the reverse side, but that doesn't matter to me. When you receive these towels, they will have 1 or 2 "inspected by" stickers on them--remove these VERY carefully or they will make pulls in the towel! (You'll understand after you rip the first one off.) The towels are a lighter weave and twist so I would not recommend them if you wear lots of jewelry that the towels could catch on, and make a 'pull' in it (in addition to the pull you already have with ripping off the first sticker). We had trouble ordering 4 bath with 4 hand towels using the "Buy both" special. We forgot to report this to Amazon, but ended up placing 4 separate orders to get the hand towels for free (with Amazon Prime). We could not order qty 4 without getting charged for the hand towels--just a fyi.

So for us using them occasionally in the guest bath, they are a great value, look really nice, and feel wonderful.

Addendum for a pet peeve: READ THE WORDS of what you are buying when you order. Seems some people see the picture showing the set of towels and order based JUST on the picture! Then never seem to notice that what they are buying says "BATH TOWEL", not a "SET of towels", but "BATH TOWEL", then give the product a low rating because THEY DID NOT PAY ATTENTION to what they were buying.

These towels are ineffective. They refuse to absorb water! Even after many washings. They simply smear the water around. Can't recommend them for their assigned purpose.

The towel is Ok, it's thick enough but not extremely large and I thought by looking at the picture shown that this was towel set including a washcloth and hand towel. I find some of these pictures hard to decipher. They show you a set but only send one item and sometimes I've ordered where they show you a single item and you get a set? (with sheets for instance)

I thought that these towels would be of a better quality. They are thin and not too absorbant..

The picture and description of the towels was very misleading. It appeared that it was a 3-piece set, when, in fact, it was one (very thin) bath towel for $9.99.

Definitely not worth the price. You can get towels of better quality at Wal-Mart for $4.99.

To answer a previous review, if you use fabric softener when you wash you will drastically reduce any towels ability to absorb.

Ignore the rating I did not purchase these towels.

These are the BEST Towels I have ever used!!! They are soft and absorb GREAT. (I use a touch of liquid fabric softener and no dryers sheet, I use the dryer balls) and they come out PERFECT!! I love these!!!!

I thought this was a set of 3 towels for 9.99, which would have been a great deal. The one towel was thin and not worth the money. I can get towels of that quality at Wal-mart for 3.99 on sale.

I am on an all white kick so I purchased these nice and fluffy white towels. Nice an absorbent too. Regards Judy44

I sent for the hand towel and bath towel. I think the description is pretty clear - I wasn't mislead at all by the descriptions or illustrative picture. Arrived promptly, as usual with Amazon offerings. No way I could find a towel of this quality at W*M,etc. It was completely hemmed on all sides with a robustly applied stitch. It really does seem to be of "spa" or "hotel" quality. The bath towel has been washed 3 times: no problems. It's thirsty and plenty absorbant. Now I want to buy some more of the bath towels- but they are not available!
