An Effective Approach to Bible Reading, February 22, 2006
This review is from: The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a Day (New International Version) (Hardcover)
"The Bible in 90 Days" is a new approach to Bible reading. Ted Cooper is an ordinary guy--not a theologian, pastor, or Bible teacher--who wanted to find out what this thing called Christianity is all about. To that end, he started reading its textbook, the Bible. At twelve pages a day, it took just 90 days, and before he finished, he had met the God of the Bible and had become a believer. The result was the creation of "The Bible in 90 Days" and related material to enable others to take this 90-day journey. Most of us who consider ourselves students of the Bible think reading it through in a year is a major accomplishment. Few would consider trying to do it in three months. I took the 90 day challenge when I heard about it, and it as been most enjoyable and beneficial. I have encountered scripture on a level that has significantly enhanced my perception of the Word of God as a single story. I recommend "The Bible in 90 Days" to all who are interested in deepening their experience, no matter their level of acquaintance with the Bible. The book itself is a thinline, large-print NIV version that is comfortable to hold and easy to read. Useful feature are markings at twelve-page intervals as well as a chart on the inside cover to check off each day's reading. It is an effective approach and a very usable book.

Great Reading Plan, Great Reading Bible, It's **NOT** a * STUDY* Bible, March 7, 2009

This isn't a study Bible. It's designed with no study helps or notes on purpose so you are READING the Bible, and not grazing over every verse, for however long it takes you to finish.
Note that this Bible is in larger print than normal so you don't get tired easily. Note also the 90 day reading plan/format is in the Bible as well.(this was the main reason I bought it.)
On page 1061, it gives you clear directions about using the plan with another Bible of your choice.
He even states that he's not suggesting that there are no other good reading Bibles. Then gives a chart to use with other Bibles
He also gives you information on using the plan with audio CD's.
I don't understand, where is the "unnecessary gimmick"????
On page vi, It clearly states that not everyone stops in the middle of the verse but some people choose to read until the next natural end point. It says use what works for you.
On page viii, the Author states that is Curriculum Program is optional.
It's up to you, and the Program helps groups stay together.
The Curriculum Program and Participants Guide appears to be the "Study" portion if you need it. I've been through the Bible a few times and make use of letting The Holy Spirit, scripture interpreting scripture, online resources, and other believers help me understand and get the Bible. I didn't have to buy the "extras".
I've taken the 90 day reading challenge and it was great experience.
I've also listened, on cd, to the complete Bible in a year. It too was a great experience.
I was asked by someone to take him through the Bible. The complete Bible.
This Bible/Reading plan enabled me to show him how to do it. He completed it.
He also bought some Audio Cd's to supplement his goal.
He had never read the Bible before, and his life changed for the better. He said he wanted to go back and study some of the books more deeply.
Like Job.
This experience alone was well worth the money I spent on the book.
Becky L.states:
" The Bible in 90 Days" makes this error -- 12 pages of Leviticus is a lot harder for most people to read than 12 pages of Matthew. ............"
I don't get this. What error? This would be true whether you are reading a study Bible, any Bible, or the 90 day Bible.
I don't think Becky has done the reading plan, nor do I think Becky has even purchased the book.
Becky L.states:
"A better approach for most people is to read a bit of the Old Testament and a bit of the New Testament each day."
This sounds like you'd compound the problem of making books like Leviticus harder with your attention divided.
I don't agree with reading Old and New Testaments at the same time is a good approach for most people. Especially new readers. This sounds like something that someone who is distracted/bored easily would do. Just try reading Revelation and Leviticus at the same time. <joking>
I've never been one to read more than one book at a time. I feel it takes away from understanding/researching either.
I think the reason some people have a hard time understanding/reading some of the Old Testament, is that they aren't aware, or have taken the time, to know about the customs, and culture of that time. Perhaps a good Commentary/Bible Dictionary, should be purchased, or utilized online.
The 90day Bible is just another tool to get the Word into you.
I would/will buy another one. It's effective.
This has been said before, and I'll say it again. The Bible is so simple a child can understand it, yet so deep theologians are still studying it.
This Bible's main objective is to get Christians, or anybody else, a systematic way to get a great overview of the Bible. Get familiar with it. Even at this pace, the story is VERY clear!
I give it 5 stars because of my friend who finished it and wanted to study more, and because it has helped me, and it's a great product.
