5.0 out of 5 stars An Effective Approach to Bible Reading
"The Bible in 90 Days" is a new approach to Bible reading. Ted Cooper is an ordinary guy--not a theologian, pastor, or Bible teacher--who wanted to find out what this thing called Christianity is all about. To that end, he started reading its textbook, the Bible. At twelve pages a day, it took just 90 days, and before he finished, he had met the God of the Bible and had...

1.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary gimmick
I feel bad giving a Bible a 1-star review, but I think it's important to draw attention to some faults in this particular version.

"The Bible in 90 Days" simply takes the number of pages in the entire Bible and divides them into 90 daily readings. At the top of every 12th page is simply a box marking the start of the next day's reading -- which falls in the...

5.0 out of 5 stars An Effective Approach to Bible Reading, February 22, 2006
This review is from: The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a Day (New International Version) (Hardcover)
"The Bible in 90 Days" is a new approach to Bible reading. Ted Cooper is an ordinary guy--not a theologian, pastor, or Bible teacher--who wanted to find out what this thing called Christianity is all about. To that end, he started reading its textbook, the Bible. At twelve pages a day, it took just 90 days, and before he finished, he had met the God of the Bible and had become a believer. The result was the creation of "The Bible in 90 Days" and related material to enable others to take this 90-day journey. Most of us who consider ourselves students of the Bible think reading it through in a year is a major accomplishment. Few would consider trying to do it in three months. I took the 90 day challenge when I heard about it, and it as been most enjoyable and beneficial. I have encountered scripture on a level that has significantly enhanced my perception of the Word of God as a single story. I recommend "The Bible in 90 Days" to all who are interested in deepening their experience, no matter their level of acquaintance with the Bible. The book itself is a thinline, large-print NIV version that is comfortable to hold and easy to read. Useful feature are markings at twelve-page intervals as well as a chart on the inside cover to check off each day's reading. It is an effective approach and a very usable book.

5.0 out of 5 stars 90 stars for Bible in 90 Days, February 18, 2006
This review is from: The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a Day (New International Version) (Hardcover)
This is simply the NIV Thinline repackaged but it appears to have exactly the desired effect. I've taught the class four times, three using the Thinline and now once using 90 Days. This group is keeping up with the reading at a better rate and people outside the class are approaching me to buy extra copies. The combination of the 90 Days Bible and the participant's guide is working very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reading Plan, Great Reading Bible, It's **NOT** a * STUDY* Bible, March 7, 2009

This isn't a study Bible. It's designed with no study helps or notes on purpose so you are READING the Bible, and not grazing over every verse, for however long it takes you to finish.

Note that this Bible is in larger print than normal so you don't get tired easily. Note also the 90 day reading plan/format is in the Bible as well.(this was the main reason I bought it.)

On page 1061, it gives you clear directions about using the plan with another Bible of your choice.
He even states that he's not suggesting that there are no other good reading Bibles. Then gives a chart to use with other Bibles
He also gives you information on using the plan with audio CD's.

I don't understand, where is the "unnecessary gimmick"????

On page vi, It clearly states that not everyone stops in the middle of the verse but some people choose to read until the next natural end point. It says use what works for you.

On page viii, the Author states that is Curriculum Program is optional.
It's up to you, and the Program helps groups stay together.
The Curriculum Program and Participants Guide appears to be the "Study" portion if you need it. I've been through the Bible a few times and make use of letting The Holy Spirit, scripture interpreting scripture, online resources, and other believers help me understand and get the Bible. I didn't have to buy the "extras".

I've taken the 90 day reading challenge and it was great experience.
I've also listened, on cd, to the complete Bible in a year. It too was a great experience.

I was asked by someone to take him through the Bible. The complete Bible.
This Bible/Reading plan enabled me to show him how to do it. He completed it.
He also bought some Audio Cd's to supplement his goal.
He had never read the Bible before, and his life changed for the better. He said he wanted to go back and study some of the books more deeply.
Like Job.
This experience alone was well worth the money I spent on the book.

Becky L.states:
" The Bible in 90 Days" makes this error -- 12 pages of Leviticus is a lot harder for most people to read than 12 pages of Matthew. ............"

I don't get this. What error? This would be true whether you are reading a study Bible, any Bible, or the 90 day Bible.

I don't think Becky has done the reading plan, nor do I think Becky has even purchased the book.

Becky L.states:
"A better approach for most people is to read a bit of the Old Testament and a bit of the New Testament each day."

This sounds like you'd compound the problem of making books like Leviticus harder with your attention divided.
I don't agree with reading Old and New Testaments at the same time is a good approach for most people. Especially new readers. This sounds like something that someone who is distracted/bored easily would do. Just try reading Revelation and Leviticus at the same time. <joking>
I've never been one to read more than one book at a time. I feel it takes away from understanding/researching either.
I think the reason some people have a hard time understanding/reading some of the Old Testament, is that they aren't aware, or have taken the time, to know about the customs, and culture of that time. Perhaps a good Commentary/Bible Dictionary, should be purchased, or utilized online.

The 90day Bible is just another tool to get the Word into you.
I would/will buy another one. It's effective.

This has been said before, and I'll say it again. The Bible is so simple a child can understand it, yet so deep theologians are still studying it.
This Bible's main objective is to get Christians, or anybody else, a systematic way to get a great overview of the Bible. Get familiar with it. Even at this pace, the story is VERY clear!

I give it 5 stars because of my friend who finished it and wanted to study more, and because it has helped me, and it's a great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary gimmick, October 2, 2007
This review is from: The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a Day (New International Version) (Hardcover)
I feel bad giving a Bible a 1-star review, but I think it's important to draw attention to some faults in this particular version.

"The Bible in 90 Days" simply takes the number of pages in the entire Bible and divides them into 90 daily readings. At the top of every 12th page is simply a box marking the start of the next day's reading -- which falls in the middle of a verse quite often. You don't need to buy a new Bible for this -- just divide the # of pages in your edition by 90 and read that many each day!

This edition also doesn't include any study helps to help make the daily readings understandable.

I've helped hundreds of people read thru the entire Bible, and many have told me that they found some Old Testament sections very hard to get thru (and I agree for myself!). Books like Numbers can be hard to read -- especially if asked to read chapter after chapter without explanation. "The Bible in 90 Days" makes this error -- 12 pages of Leviticus is a lot harder for most people to read than 12 pages of Matthew. A better approach for most people is to read a bit of the Old Testament and a bit of the New Testament each day. This not only holds the reader's interest, but also gives them a better comprehensive view of Scripture, understanding how Old & New Testaments work together.

If you don't already own a Bible then maybe there's merit to buying this one to motivate you to start reading -- but you might be better off spending your money on another edition with study helps. Otherwise, this just seems like an unnecessary gimmick.

Easy to read and to understand. I find myself reading it more like a novel and sharing with my friends as if it were a soap opera.

I ordered this for a Bible Study in Sunday School. We have thoroughly enjoyed it. Reading the Bible so quickly forces you to see the big picture and doesn't allow you to over-analyze scripture. It would be a great first read through the Bible or an excellent choice for the person who may have studied the Bible for years but can't honestly say they've read the Bible cover to cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, February 23, 2006
This review is from: The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a Day (New International Version) (Hardcover)
An excellent way to read the Bible through quickly. Twelve pages is a lot, if you're doing other reading as well, but the set-up is simple and easy to understand. This is a good transIation for quick reading, and the large print is helpful. I recommend it highly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kindle version uses a different translation than the hardcopy version, September 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First let me say that I am really enjoying this experience. My wife and I have read the Bible cover to cover several times, and the 90 day plan is an excellent pace that is really fun and inspiring. Having the day end markers is crucial on the Kindle and worth the $7 to me.

However, yesterday I was reading Proverbs 28:17 and thought - hum so Judas did the right thing when he committed suicide and if I had been there I should not have tried to stop him. The verse says: "Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder will seek refuge in the grave; let no one hold them back."

This was an admittedly strange thought for a Christian who believes all life is precious to God. The hardcopy version of the book (I bought both being uncertain which I would enjoy reading the most) uses the NIV translation. It says: "A man tormented by the guilt of murder will be a fugitive till death, let no one support him."

One of Ted Cooper's benefits of having everyone in class use the same book is (see page 1061):
"No discussion time is wasted as participants compare disparate translations of the same verses."

I am not an NIV only reader and once I read the Bible cover to cover using "The Message" and enjoyed that as well. However, I find it perverse to have used a different translation in the Kindle version than in the hardcopy version. This review is warning to group leaders and group participants. If anyone knows what translation was used please post that back.

In conclusion, I think the 90 day program is excellent and I recommend it and if you are doing it alone any translation is beneficial, including this one. I will keep using it and do not feel like I wasted my $7. I love the large font on my Kindle.

P.S. - Please do not post back about Judas, I know that he should have repented. That is not the point of this review. My only point is that the Kindle version and the hardcopy version use different translations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to read the Bible!, May 31, 2008

This review is from: The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a Day (New International Version) (Hardcover)
I am so happy that I bought this book. As a Christian, I enjoy reading the Bible, and this is a planned way of reading for a short time each day. It is a disciplined way to read the Bible that is very rewarding. I plan to read through it a minimum of twice a year. I highly recommend this book for those who are serious about the Word of God.
