5.0 out of 5 stars A great "comunion during commuting" solution
This is a great tool for folks like me who have long commutes. I find the dramatization in most cases "just right". Not too much, but enough to really bring you into the story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Get the older one instead
I got this set after sampling the older version of this product (still available, ISBN: 0842354468); and I'm disappointed with the reader's voice (Stephen Johnston). The more mature voice in the older edition is clearer and conveys the emotions so much better. While this is marketed as the dramatized version and the other version not, there are very few negligible...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great "comunion during commuting" solution, January 23, 2004
This review is from: Bible Alive! Dramatized: New Living Translation (NLT Bibles) (Audio CD)
This is a great tool for folks like me who have long commutes. I find the dramatization in most cases "just right". Not too much, but enough to really bring you into the story.

One reviewer commented on the "voice of Jesus". The voices of Jesus and God are not "dramatized" the way all the other characters. They are delivered by the "narrator" in the same style as the rest of the narration.

But really -- I can appreciate the conundrum -- what should God sound like? I find that I like their choice, and it is clearly a choice they made -- not just "bad acting" on the part of the narrator.

The voice of Moses, though, bothers me when he sounds like a young man when he meets God at the burning bush, though he was at least 40 or so at the time. But -- that's nit-picky.

This is a very enjoyable audio bible...and the New Living Translation is perfectly suited to the task. I probably wouldn't choose this translation for deep bible study on difficult passages -- but as a "listen to" version it's really nice.

Nonny

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Audio Bible!, September 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bible Alive! Dramatized: New Living Translation (NLT Bibles) (Audio CD)
Here is the Word-for-Word New Living Translation with fantastic dramatization...like a radio show with music and sound effects...but it is strictly Scripture. What a blessing and so easy to understand. Ver professional. I have listened to many other audio Bible as I have grown up...but Stephen Johnston is the best narrator I have ever heard. This Bible really comes "alive" with his narration and the help of the professional actors.

5.0 out of 5 stars An answer to prayer!, November 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bible Alive! Dramatized: New Living Translation (NLT Bibles) (Audio CD)
I have wanted to get an audio Bible for a long time d/t spending a lot of time in my vehicle and not feeling like I had time to sit and read and dwell on what the Bible has to say. This is an answer to prayer! What a great audio collection! The narrator is great and the accompanying music and voices for each character make this a great tool for anyone wanting to learn God's word!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different voices keep it fresh, March 17, 2006

This review is from: Bible Alive! Dramatized: New Living Translation (NLT Bibles) (Audio CD)

When listening to some of the old testament while driving, it can be easy to drift off and find you did not actually hear what you just listened to. But I found this product, which uses different voice characterizations, to keep things fresh, to be a good answer to that. Some of the voices can be a little campy, but that's OK; they lend a little color & make it interesting. I did note that at times, the background music can be a little too soft or too loud compared to the voices. I also found that the level of the voices vary enough that I frequently turn the volume up and down to get it right. A re-mix to get levels more consistent would be good investment for the producers of this product. Overall it is very well done though. My kids like listening to it. They say they can picture what is going on because of the various sound effects & background music combined with the stories. I'd say its a great way to get the word in you while you drive & this non-mp3 version plays on any car CD player or PC'c CD rom..

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!, March 27, 2005
This review is from: Bible Alive! Dramatized: New Living Translation (NLT Bibles) (Audio CD)
The "Bible Alive" CD's are awesome! I grew up in church and have read the Bible through several times but when listening to these CD's I continually hear things I have never heard before. Sometimes I arrive at my location and still sit in the car and listen. Bible Alive is a real blessing - I have bought several copies for friends!

The New Living Translation is a wonderful Bible...and now this new Dramatized version with the powerful and clear baritone of Stephen Johnston, the Bible truly does come "alive". I recommend it over most any other version...and I have most of them.

The more mature voice in the older edition is clearer and conveys the emotions so much better. While this is marketed as the dramatized version and the other version not, there are very few negligible differences between the two versions as far as the dramatizations are concerned; the bible is mostly narrations anyway. I guess some people do like Stephen Johnston's deep voice, but unless you've heard and prefer his voice, get the other version instead.

I travel an hour to work and an hour home, and usually this is a very tiring journey. However, the Bible CD's makes this time fly by. The dramatization is truly amazing and never dull. This is really the perfect travel companion. I'm definately not sorry so far...

2.0 out of 5 stars Bible-semi alive, January 21, 2004

This review is from: Bible Alive! Dramatized: New Living Translation (NLT Bibles) (Audio CD)
the reader as the voice of Christ appears to be without emotion in driving out the money changers and even dying on the cross. Other actors/readers were often wonderful in speaking with feeling. The text, of course, was flawless, but the narrator spoke without feeling. The title Alive! did not reflect the actual recording. After listening to the cd one wonders why the money changers ever left the temple!

This cd has merit, but is certainly not the Bible Alive!

I originally purchased the KJV narrated by Alexander Scourby. Boy, what a mistake. The audio quality was horrible. Then I tried this product. I am amazed at the quality of the production. Very nice. I definitely recommend the Bible Alive! I am in the car about two hours a day and now I can listen to the Word of God.
