Nice: Hanegraaff does it again -- pay attn to the end-times theology,
By T-Dogg (Central Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bible Answer Book, Volume 2 (Hardcover)
The original Hanegraaff Bible Answer Book was outstanding. This one is good too, though not quite up to snuff with the first. Seems like there's a little bit less in this one, and a few of the subjects are repetitive. But here's what I like.....
...The end-times views!!! There's 82 specific questions in this book, ranging from basic apologetics, to intriguing queries (Was Jesus Married? How could the bible command a rape victim to marry her rapist? Is euthenasia ever permissable?), to quite a few concerning Hank's end-times eschatology --- which I'm becoming more and more a fan of. #72 "Is 'Coming on the clouds' a reference to Christ's Second Coming?' Hanks answer, in part... "...clouds were a common Old Testament symbol pointing to God as the sovereign judge of the nations." (p. 208) After quoting Isaiah 19:1 (in which the Lord rides on a cloud and is coming to judge Egypt), Hank writes "Furthermore, the 'coming on the clouds' judgment metaphor was clearly intended for Caiaphas and the first-century crowd that condemned Christ to death..." obviously, Jesus was in this instance as in others, referring to the judgment upon 'this generation' --- the fall of Jerusalem in 70 a.d. #78 'What is the meaning of 666?' Hank's assessment -- "Placing the beast in the twenty-first century, however, may well pose insurmountale difficulties. First John, the author of Revelation, told a first-century audience that with 'wisdom' and 'insight' they would be able to 'calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number...." (p. 229) Hank then teaches that "...transforming names into numbers (gematria) was common in antiquity...." and that Nero "... transliterated into Hebrew equals 666. Moreover, the presence in some ancient manuscripts of a variation in which 666 is rendered 616 lends further credence to Nero as the intended referent. The Hebrew transliteration of the Latin spelling of 'Nero Caesar' totals 616." (p.230) Writing of the times of the deaths of Peter and Paul, Hank concludes, "Indeed this was the only epoch in human history in which the Beast could directly assail the foundation of the Christian Church of which Christ himself was the cornerstone." Other questions on this line of thought in the book are "Which generation is 'this generation'?", and "Does the Bible make a distinction between Israel and the church?". Overall, another great question and answer book complete with verse references and some good sources for further study. Definitely not too heady, though you'll want to read the answers through and study them thoroughly, like you're supposed to do (Acts 17:11).

Another Apologetics Must Read,
By OtherWorlds&Wisdom (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bible Answer Book, Volume 2 (Hardcover)
The Bible Answer Book, Volume 2 is the second collection of most popular questions posed on Hanegraff's radio show. Like the first book, he distills the answers to the essentials so this is meant to be a starting point, not a detailed exposition. These books are small, but handy references and the majority of answers are agreeable. Both books are essential additions to your apologetics library. Many thanks to Hanegraff for continuing to equip believers and answering skeptics.

This book was smaller and shorter than I thought, but it does the job. It helps answers questions that people have about the Bible. It even has questions that I have never thought of. It's a good little book to have to help you understand the Bible more and to help answer or defend your faith. Obviously nobody can really know everything and a lot of things are predictions, but Hank does a great job of backing up his thoughts with Biblical insights. Overall it's a nice book to have and it has helped me be more knowledgeable about the Bible as well as other religions because Hank also helps you understand what the other religions are about.

Great Book,

This book is very helpful in that it serves to enhance my Bible study, but more importantly, I am able to confidently answer those questions that can sometimes be difficult to answer; and with authority. This book has been particularly useful in disarming those who ask questions merely to discredit the validity of the Christian faith. In that sense, it's a great witnessing tool as well. I would also highly recommend volume one for the same reasons.

The second most excellent Book other then the Bible!,

Only Hank Hanegraaff can tell it like it is, not only through his opinion but through documented facts. He has lead me, my family and friends through the reality of what these questions are all about, he has answered them correctly, acuratley, to the point, and with out doubts. When ever I have a question about anything I may be having trouble answering he has always come forth with the knowledge of a true scholar. I whole heartedly recommend this book not just for the purchaser, but to pass it on to others, that like wise are searching for the absolute truth.

I like this book because it does answer a group of selected questions that at some point in time have pondered. So if you are interested in some answers to some peculiar questions then pick this book up. Volume 1 is a good read too.

A perfect guide to find accurate biblical answers for questions about the Christian faith without having to stumble when asked something you may not know. Easy to find answers on many questions asked by seekers, non-believers and skeptics. This is the 2nd book that provides answers to questions not covered in the 1st version.

Poor Bible Question and Answer book.,
By
This review is from: The Bible Answer Book, Volume 2 (Hardcover)
If you are looking for a book to find answers to bible questions this is not it.
Keep looking. The Bible answer book 2 is a poor question and Answer book. The author either fails to answer the questions are answers them in a way thats hard to understand. He uses words in his answers that a lot of people would not know what the mean. Some of the time he does explain them but not always. To many of his answers either is not what the bibles says or goes beyond what the bible say about the subject. The scriptures he uses to support his answers either are not talking about the subject or they do but not as far as he takes his answer. (See above sentence). Also to much at the bottom of the answer where is says for more study.... it directs the reader to the minstry the author works for to sell you something. At least this one did suggest reading other authors books to study the subject of the questions unlike vol 1 that always directed you to the authors other books. The writer seems to have not considered his audience in writing this becuse it is hard to understand his answers. He seems unable to give a simple answer. Alot in this book is questionable or is not what the bible teaches. As in my review of the vol 1 I suggest you get "Now thats a good quetion?" by Sproul. This is good bible question and answer book. The answers are given so the are understandable. Also it has a table of contents with all the questions in the book and what page there on which makes it easy to fine one on a piticular subject. Also Sproul seems to have a better understanding of the bible in that his answers don't contradict the bible anywhere as much, no more then in general you would find in a book like this on christian teachings. The author of the bible answer book can write good books, the prayer of Jesus is a good example of his good writing. |
