About the Author
Alexander Whyte (1836-1921) was born in Scotland and has been often called the "last of the Puritans." He was educated at King's College, Aberdeen, and at New College, Edinburgh. From 1866-1870, he was assistant minister at Free St. John's, Glasgow and then called as a colleague and eventual successor to Robert S. Candlish at Edinburgh's Free St. George. Known as a graphic preacher with a compelling style, Whyte ministered for nearly 40 years at Free St. George. In 1909, he became principal of New College and taught New Testament Literature there as well as being the moderator of the Free Church general assembly. Bible Characters From Old and New Testaments is the crowning literary achievement of Alexander Whyte.

This is the best brief exposition of Bible characters ever written. Alexander Whyte reveals insights into the lives of Bible characters which merely casual Bible readers will never find. Then he powerfully applies the truths revealed in such a way that the reader is left convicted and seeking God's mercy.
