Do you think Bible commentaries are dry and boring and hard to understand? Warren Wiersbe's Commentaries are in-depth and intellectually-stimulating, while being understandable and enjoying to read!
These two books are the compilation of Wiersbe's "Be Series". You can find these books individually in paperback - one for each book of the Bible (sometimes there are two per book - for John and Acts, or one book for several small books of the Bible at the end of the New Testament). While it is probably easier to carry around one small paperback for the book of the Bible you're studying, you can't beat the price for this two-volume set, which includes the complete text of 23 of Wiersbe's New Testament Commentaries. (...)
This is an invaluable resource for anyone wanting to better understand the Bible. Warren Wiersbe's commentaries read like a letters from a good friend. You will find yourself looking up one passage, but continuing to read because it's so good!
You may wonder if Warren has written commentaries for the Old Testament books. He has written a lot, but not all of them yet. You can buy many of them individually, and you can also buy "The Bible Exposition Commentary - Pentateuch" which was published in January of 2001. This includes all the "Be Series" for Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Genesis has 3 "Be Series" books! I hope that someday there will be a two-volume set for the Old Testament commentaries as well!
Warren Wiersbe is my favorite commentator, and when I'm confused about a Bible passage, I automatically say to myself, "Let's see what Warren has to say about this one!"
You might be interested in my other reviews of Bibles, Christian books, and Christian music. May God bless you richly in your study of His Word!

Dr Wiersbe's Bible Exposition Commentary of the NT is a superb commentary set of the NT. His writing is supremely readable and easy to understand. He discusses many controversial topics that are pertinent to today's society and gives good references for his ideas. Wiersbe teaches from a conservative Scriptural basis, but is not unduly literal. Wiersbe covers an amazing amount of information within these two volumes. I use these more frequently than any other commentary set that I own. He adds history and some lexical analysis where it counts to help the reader understand key Biblical concepts. I currently own these and the BE commentary on the Pentateuch. I can't wait to complete my set.

While we use the word "layman" to describe the commentary, it is useful for people of all levels of knowledge and application. I use it frequently in my pursuit of my seminary masters degree.

I hope these help illuminate God's Word to His students.

God bless you.

I use these all the time in my studies. Wiersbe writes at a level anyone can understand and provides many insights that his years of study and devotion have provided.

I would recommend both volumes to anyone wanting to gain a deeper insight into the New Testament.

As a Bible college graduate and youth pastor, I could not do without this commentary set. Wiersbe uses everday illustrations and gives a good explanation of the text. However as with many commentators, some difficult passages are skipped.

Warren Wiersbe has a talent for gathering insights from God's Word. He is able to pick a theme from a New Testament book and relate how a believer can develop Christian character in his or her life. Wiersbe writes from a Baptist perspective. He does not get into minor dogmatic controversies. He is sound on the basic essentials of doctrine and the Christian life. His common-sense approach to the Bible is similar to that of Baptist preacher Charles Stanley.

Wiersbe does have excellent scholarly credentials. He is a well-educated man who was affiliated with Moody Bible Institute for many years. He wrote this paticular series of commentaries to be accessible to laypeople. That being said, there are keen insights that he shares that will maintain the interest of people with years of seminary training.

Dr. Wiersbe is a talented writer and his commentaries are a pleasure to read. He includes Bible exegesis, anecdotes that relate to the Bible passages, and interesting quotes from famous statesmen and theologians. His writings inspire Christians to be more devoted to holy living and deeper study of God's Word. The two-volume set is a great deal which will save the reader a lot of money. I grew spiritually by reading the volumes cover-to-cover. It is a masterpiece work of literature which I enjoyed thoroughly.

I've read a number of Bible commentaries and have found them to be just "okay." Most commentaries either rehash what you've just read in Scripture or they're boring to read. In fact, I gave up on reading Bible Commentaries because I felt they didn't offer anything I didn't already know, until I ran into Warren Wiersbe's set. I actually purchased it as a gift for someone who had lost portions of their set, and I began to read it. I was impressed! Mr. Wiersbe offers in-depth discussion on the topic at hand and sprinkles it with history, culture, perspective and more, bringing the Scripture to life. His style of writing is very engaging - far from heady or boring. If you've been a Christian for a number of years and are looking for something new and refreshing, this set won't disappoint.
