5.0 out of 5 stars definitive book for biblical movies, April 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bible on Film: A Checklist, 1897-1980 (Hardcover)
this is the definitive book for biblical movies. not only does it cover all the films based on the new testament (as later copycat books did) it is still the ONLY book to detail all films based on the old testament. the old testament films are covered first; read all about the classics like "Samson And Delilah" and "David And Bethsheba". then the new testament films are covered -- everything from silents to "Jesus Christ Superstar", and everything inbetween, like "Quo Vadis" and "Gospel Road". there's even a section on tv shows that relate to the bible; and tv movies are listed, of course. many b/w photos. over 200 pages. hardcover. hard book to find, but well worth it. this book needs updated. hopefully, scarecrow will do so soon. contact them and ask them to update this gem. you'll enjoy this informative volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for the kind review., April 22, 2010
This review is from: The Bible on Film: A Checklist, 1897-1980 (Hardcover)
I am the creator and co-author of this book (THE BIBLE ON FILM) and I appreciate the kind review. For the record, contributers to the book included the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (the Oscars); The American Film Institute (AFI); Ball University; and the late author and horror film historian Richard Bojarsky. I was honored to see my book cited in THE JESUS I NEVER KNEW by Philip Yancey. I created the idea for this genre on June 8, 1977. The book was published on November 3, 1981. Before then, the idea for a book of this nature had yet to exist. I made the 26-minute fan film "The Gang" (1967). It is unique in that it is sound only with no picture, the exact opposite of a silent movie.I also wrote and drew the fan comic book "The Gang". I published a fanzine called "The Godzilla Fan Newsletter Godzillamania" in 1977-78. I view all this as my "personal trilogy" of work. Thanks again for the kind words.
