THis is what I have been waiting for. The "historical-grammatical" approach to exegesis requires that the student understand the historical setting and the grammatical structure of the passage. Until now the student needed to research many different sources, often obscure and hard to locate, to get a good sense of the historial and cultural setting of a passage. THis series provides a quick and reliable source for getting up to speed on the historical and cultural setting of a passage and be able to pull out the significance of this setting for the interpretation of the passage. THis set is destined to be my first "go to" source in serious exegesis.

While this book only covers the new testament books Act throught Ephesians, it is very helpful for doing word studies. I enjoy reading it and the shipping was fast. I am satisfied.

If you were raised in the school of the Barclays and Vines, then skip this book and the series. This in no way compares to those masterly books which dissect words in the Bible with such dept providing information for you to meditate and chew on. Rather this book and others in the word study series lack dept, they give metrics such as how many times the word appeared in the various books of the bible but i don't see a knowledge of the greek or hebrew culture or environment which will give me more inside into why that word was chosen by the writer. God will use the imagery associated with the various words in the writer's mind to convey the thoughts in his mind. I expect word books to provide that kind of data, i did not get it with these word study books.
