5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I've been searching for!!! So easy to understand!
I love this little Bible story book. I have a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old, and the Bible stories that I've had just can't keep their attention because they are too "over their heads." This one is just great. They are short and sweet for short attention spans. They capture the very heart of the message and put it just the way you would talk to a toddler. My 5 yr old niece...

1.0 out of 5 stars The Bible in Pictures for Toddlers
I'm a big fan of Ella K. Lindvall so I was quite disappointed when reading through this children's Bible story book. First the positives: loved the illustrations, loved the padded cover, the 2-page format for each story, and an equal number of Old Testament and New Testament stories - about 70 stories in all. 4.0 out of 5 stars very good but not great, December 20, 2007

This review is from: The Bible in Pictures for Toddlers (Hardcover)
While I love the read-aloud Bible stories from Ella Lindvall I was a little disappointed with this Bible. The one thing that I didn't like was the fact that it does have pictures of Jesus in it for the New Testament stories. Lindvall seemed to make a special effort in the read-aloud stories to have images of Christ from behind so that there was no "face-shot" but it is not so in this little volume. The illustrations are very good and the stories are nice and short and easy to read. Overall I liked it much much better than many of the other illustrated Children's Bibles out there but might go with the classic volume by Voss if I had it to do over again.

However, in simplifying the language the author has substituted the word "juice" for "wine." Wine is simply not juice. Better to choose other stories than to change the biblical content. If sacraments are seen as symbols in your Christian tradition, this book will not be so offensive to you. In my opinion, as a Lutheran Director of Christian Education, Lindvall's "Read Aloud Bible Stories" in 4 volumes (which also have wonderful illustrations) are a far better choice for toddlers as far as content is concerned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bible my toddler can hold and look at, with interest and joy, June 3, 2008
This review is from: The Bible in Pictures for Toddlers (Hardcover)
My husband and I use this toddler Bible for devotions with our son every morning and evening. Our son absolutely loves this Bible. After devotions, he grabs it from me and flips through all the pages, pointing at things and talking/babbling. The Bible is just right for him: small and light, with pages that wipe off easily and a soft, padded cover.

This Bible has, of course, been simplified, but at least Ella gets it right: Jonah was swallowed by a big fish, not a whale! :-) Since it has been simplified, we don't stick to the text; we use our own words oftentimes (not always) to explain the Bible story. We use more complex language as our toddler grows. And we correct things like "Jesus Turns Water into Juice." We just say, "Jesus Turns Water into Wine." For this reason, I would not recommend this Bible for preschoolers, unless they understand that Daddy and Mommy are not actually reading the words on the page, because it would be confusing to youngsters learning to read.

Also, I do wish that there were a few more Biblical accounts in this Bible. Our son is not quite 2 years old, and we've seem to run out of stories! But he loves the Bible anyway, and that gives him an early start in finding delight in the word of God. So, 4 stars from me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but be careful!, January 17, 2012

This review is from: The Bible in Pictures for Toddlers (Hardcover)
While I appreciate the simplicity of the stories, I just thought to mention that there are a few things that some Christians may not believe to be biblical. Especially troubling to me was the statement that God no longer speaks to people today like He once did in Bible times. Certainly, I agree that all prophesy must be weighed against Scripture, and if what seems to be a word from God contradicts the Bible, it is false. On the other hand, according to my understanding of 1 Corinthians 14:39 (quoted below), it is also wrong to say that God no longer communicates with men directly, even by speaking to them.
"Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues."
There may be some who support the author's view; however, I wanted to mention that to people interested in this book so that they are aware of what it teaches. May the Lord guide you as you consider this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple for Toddlers, December 3, 2011

I love this Bible. It is very easy to read and puts the story in very simple words. I also love that it ask questions to keep the toddlers attention so they listen better knowing that when that book is read that they are going to be asked a question for almost every story. The stories are short and simple.

3.0 out of 5 stars theological differences, October 28, 2011
This review is from: The Bible in Pictures for Toddlers (Hardcover)
I got this Bible for my 16 month old, and so far it has been fine for her daily Bible stories. However, I would have liked the stories to be a bit longer, but still it is nice there are so many. I also like the size, which is perfect for her at this age. She enjoys looking at the pictures.

One major issue I have with this Bible is that it depicts Jesus' baptism incorrectly. In the picture, Jesus is being 'poured' or 'sprinkled', when in reality He really was immersed. Since we do not even believe in sprinkling or pouring as forms of baptism, this was a bit upsetting for me. Just wanted to let others know if this would concern them as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought....., May 23, 2008

Although the stories are supposed to be 2 pages long, alot of them are 1/2 page. Any time I read this to my 2 year old, I feel like I should keep going with another story. I only bought this book because it was recommended as a Bible lesson book with her preschool homeschool curriculum. Have since moved on to a better book.
