5.0 out of 5 stars Best E-bible for Android January 14, 2012
Verified Purchase
I've tried out a bunch of Bible apps, both free and paid, and this is the best one I've come across so far. It's not perfect, but it has pretty much every feature I could ask for. You can split the screen for showing search results, or for displaying another book. Many versions are available for download, though some cost money. I should note that to get the KJV with linked Strongs concordance, you do have to pay- it claims to have it in the free product description but this actually only comes with the KJV. The app itself includes search, bookmark, highlight, and note features that can be backed up and synced online. The Bible functions in both portrait and landscape mode, and has adjustable text and fonts. If you have the linked Strongs bible, you can open entries by simply tapping words in the text.

The Bible layout is paragraphed, words of Christ in red, with verse numbers linked to the note/bookmark tool. It scrolls infinitely, so you can go from chapter to chapter and book to book. You can also jump to a verse via a chooser that has grid or list layout. You can also copy verses to clipboard or share them. All in all, it's quite intuitive and complete. To get some of premium content, you need to register on OliveTree's site. Their prices are pretty decent- much better than some other Bible software vendors out there.

Some things I noticed as far as cons are concerned: the scrolling speed is a bit sluggish and it's clear that this app is quite heavyweight in general. It takes a while to load up on Kindle Fire and low end Android phones, and is a bit slow on response time. Sometimes search crashes the app, especially if you don't have a split window open. Additionally, it can be pretty difficult to tap verse numbers since they're so small and often in line with Strongs links. Despite these issues, I'd still say this is the best Bible app available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and easy to use August 16, 2012

With OliveTree, my Kindle has become my Bible for church. With the split screen I can compare translations, or follow along in the Greek (using the SBL download). I've tried several other Bible apps, but I find OliveTree is easier to use in church, where what I need to do is quickly look up Bible references and cross-references. Plus there is no internet connection required for accessing the Bibles (though unlike some of the apps, you do have to purchase certain translations -- I purchased the NIV and the NASB with Strongs numbers, as well as the ESV Study Bible). Check out the OliveTree website for details. They also offer alot of classic books as free downloads.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT! January 21, 2012

This app for Kindle Fire is just Perfect! I have the full version on my iPhone and haven't really used it much so I haven't been able to appreciate all of the many wonderful features of this app. as soon as I downloaded it onto my Kindle Fire I was able to see it WAY better for one; I am in school so the convienience of having a split screen is fantastic! I can search any passage and view both the scripture in KJV and the commentary at the same time using the split screen feature. I can bookmarks, highlight or make notes as well! This is an absolute blessing to have and it is definetly worth more than the $0 that the gracious programmers have made available to us!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, not as great as iOS version December 4, 2012
Verified Purchase
I have this app on my Apple iPad, along with a plethora of titles: Bibles, commentaries, books and dictionaries. It is astoundingly wonderful and getting better with every iteration - the last being 5.3, I believe. They have now dubbed it with a name change to "Bible Study" instead of "Bible Reader." After snapping up a Fire HD, I swiftly installed the Olive Tree app. It syncs with my notes, has all my materials, but in the features category, it falls short as of the current writing(December, 2012), version 5.0 lacks many of the features I've grown to love and depend upon.

You cannot highlight PART of a verse, whether a word or a phrase.

You cannot highlight any non-Bible e-book.

The entire highlight process is not as easy to use as the iOS version. I have trouble trying to select a single word for lookup.

You do not have access to any Reading Plan options other than by uploading an entire new book/Bible.

Those are the biggest faults I've found that immediately come to mind. I don't have the Fire with me to check other issues, and I didn't take notes. I did, however, voice my concerns to the Olive Tree folks and I have to say how much I appreciate their getting back to me quickly with explanations and their apologies for the issues. They also assured me at that time they are working on improvements. But using this version on my Fire is still frustrating to the point where I will not rely on it unless desperate. I have been spoiled by the excellence of the iOS version, which is not only the best Bible Study app out there, it's the best reading app for any e-book I've bought. I use it nearly every day.

I hope the capabilities of the Android version improve, but if you are looking to purchase a tablet mainly or heavily for Bible study, you should seriously look at the Apple tablets and the iOS version by Olive Tree, that is now called "Bible Study" not "Bible Reader."
