Best Bible I've Ever Found,
This review is from: Bible (Hardcover)
I went to a Christian Bookstore in my hometown (Cols, OH) back in the 1970s and saw the Open Bible and was impressed with what I saw so I bought one. The year was 1976 and according to another poster, that is the first year the Open Bible came out. That Bible made it to Ft Hill Christian Youth Camp, to lots of youth rallies and campaigns, to work where I studied on my lunch hour and was used a lot when I taught Bible classes at church and on the Joy Bus. In 2001, I decided to get a new one so I keep the older one at home, as it was getting raggedy looking and the cover (not leather) was cracking and coming apart. I still have it here with an old Bible cover that also has seen better days and I treasure it for the wonderful memories connected with it. One of the main reasons I bought it was because of the Cyclopedic Index, the absolute best when looking for any topic. When I saw how much they had improved the Bible over the years, I was even more impressed with the newer version with all the extra study aids throughout the Bible and I love the notes at the bottom to help explain some of the verses. I have recommended it to others and a friend bought one for my niece when she was going to church with me and wanted one. I had retired on disability and on a limited income so was surprised when he sent one for her... then he bought one for himself :) I'm really sorry to hear some were not pleased with this Bible but in my humble opinion, you can't find a better one and now that they are no longer printing them, I may get one for my husband since he is always "stealing" mine :) I can't believe Nelson quit printing these and am especially saddened that they didn't carry the Cyclopedic Index over to other Bibles. You just cannot beat that Index for anything in the world and I have used mine thousands of times through the years. I prefer the NKJV since it is closest to the KJV.... too many Bibles today have been changed to read the way man (and women) want them to read and the Bible is very clear about adding to or taking away from His Word. Be careful what you buy or you won't get the truth as God intended. God bless.

New Living Translation,
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bible (Hardcover)
This is the standard version of the Open Bible and uses the New Living Translation. This translation is a "paraphrase." This means it was translated thought by thought rather than word by word like the New King James Version.
