This short and clear-sighted book offers a concise introduction to the origins and nature of the Bible, and is written with the intention that a more sophisticated understanding of scripture may enhance rather than undermine faith.

This review is from: Is the Bible True?: Understanding the Bible Today (Paperback)
This is a great book for someone who would like a quick read about the Bible without getting overwhelmed with indigestible and arcane detail. Gives a great sense of how and why different parts of the Bible were written by giving you some idea about the historical, religious and cultural context as well as pointing out the difficulties of grasping the meaning of ancient languages in contemporary terms. Covers important topics from both the old and new testaments and tells how they came to be put together in the final form we know as the Bible. The Bible is a source of wonderful inspiration and a treasure trove for understanding the human condition. Unfortunately, the Bible is too often neglected by most of us because we don't understand it. This book gives anyone who is interested a valuable tool for understanding the Bible. It is most certainly not necessary to be religious to get great value from the Bible and the book takes away a lot of the mystery about the Bible and make reading it enjoyable.
