Rosemary made extensive use of border prints to add more complexity to even the simplest blocks. Be advised that it's a somewhat painstaking process. I did use that technique, and although it requires a lot of attentive measuring and cutting, you're rewarded with a quilt that will be a tour-de-force that you will be proud to add to your family's heirlooms. I even fussy cut many of the pieces in the blocks from these prints, with amazing results! However, if you want to simplify things and not use border prints, your quilt will still be quite lovely. I used 4 different Jinny Beyer border prints, which are not always easy to find. Jinny's website is your best source for finding them. Sometimes, if you know what you're looking for, you can even score some of Jinny's discontinued borders on eBay.
I employed the Sharon Schamber's method for machine applique, which sped up the process quite a bit, but gives a hand-appliqued look. If I had to hand-applique, I don't know that I would have finished my quilt in this lifetime!!Read more ›
