The instructions for block construction in this book are very good. This could be a very complicated quilt to make, and Rosemary has made it easy. Our new quilt group at church did this as a first project. Except for two of us, all were first time quilters. They were all able to cut and assemble blocks at home with ease. We chose other fabrics than what Rosemary suggests and the quilts turned out beautiful!

After quilting for several years, this was my first attempt at hand applique. Rosemary's instructions were clear and concise. This faith based quilt pattern was amazing, with blocks that went from simple to VERY challenging. Your choice of 16 out of 20 blocks to make a queen sized quilt. If you are looking for a book of patterns to use to express your faith in God and the Bible, then look no more. You could easily expand on her ideas of a queen sized quilt, and use your favorites to make a wall quilt, or just utilize the lovely center medallion. My Biblical Blocks quilt has been in 10 quilt shows, and 1 special exhibit so far. It has been the quilt I am most proud of. YOU GOTTA GET THIS BOOK!

I just completed my biblical quilt. I found the directions to be concise and well explained. The blocks range from relatively easy to quite complex, requiring much prior practice. Whereas I made a few biblically-named blocks from other sources, most of the 16 (12, to be precise) were from the book. I wasn't smitten with the 4 alternate blocks that are included, and after making one advanced block (Heavenly Stars) that required multiple Y seams, I wasn't too enthusiastic about making the Star of the Magi, Bethlehem Rose or Carpenter's Wheel blocks in the book that require more of the same. So I went looking for other biblicals that could be made in the requisite 9" size, and found some that allowed me to complete the 16 blocks needed.

Rosemary made extensive use of border prints to add more complexity to even the simplest blocks. Be advised that it's a somewhat painstaking process. I did use that technique, and although it requires a lot of attentive measuring and cutting, you're rewarded with a quilt that will be a tour-de-force that you will be proud to add to your family's heirlooms. I even fussy cut many of the pieces in the blocks from these prints, with amazing results! However, if you want to simplify things and not use border prints, your quilt will still be quite lovely. I used 4 different Jinny Beyer border prints, which are not always easy to find. Jinny's website is your best source for finding them. Sometimes, if you know what you're looking for, you can even score some of Jinny's discontinued borders on eBay.

I employed the Sharon Schamber's method for machine applique, which sped up the process quite a bit, but gives a hand-appliqued look. If I had to hand-applique, I don't know that I would have finished my quilt in this lifetime!!

This book was just what I was looking for as far as biblical-related blocks. No new patterns or designs, but that's ok because the book is beautifully done.
