Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Leaders change and trends go out of style. Only churches that are built on the solid foundation of God's Word will remain effective.

Biblical Church Growth explores the unchanging biblical principles for church growth and applies them to today's culture. Gary McIntosh defines church growth as effective evangelism, not simply a methodology for increasing membership. He sets forth nine basic principles that provide an eternal foundation for helping any church, large or small, achieve lasting vitality and growth.

"At last! American church growth has been rescued from its hijackers and brought back to the original focus."
Jerry F. Reed, North Park Theological Seminary

"For many years critics have hounded church growth advocates for their failure to establish methodologies on biblical foundations. Gary McIntosh has done a great service by addressing these issues in a powerful and cogent way."
Dr. Thom S. Rainer, dean, Billy Graham School of Southern Seminary

"Gary McIntosh skillfully forges a step-by-step guidebook so that we can be instruments of Jesus to build his church today. No church leader should miss this strategic book."
C. Peter Wagner, Wagner Leadership Institute

"It is refreshing to have a church growth book that takes us back to basics. Gary McIntosh connects church leaders with the heartbeat of Donald McGavran, the undisputed father of the church growth movement."
Eddie Gibbs, Fuller Theological Seminary

"Gary McIntosh knows biblical church growth as it really is. He has the credentials, teaching gifts, and practical experience with hundreds of churches to give you the glue for a faithful church."
Kent R. Hunter, The Church Doctor, Corunna, Indiana

"Biblical Church Growth will give back to the church its hope and optimism for a Great Commission ministry."
Bill M. Sullivan, director of Mission/Evangelism, International headquarters of the Church of the Nazarene

4.0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Scriptural View of a Popular Convention Topic, April 17, 2004

This review is from: Biblical Church Growth: How You Can Work with God to Build a Faithful Church (Paperback)
McIntosh takes the reader directly to the Word, and bases his complete teaching on what it takes to make a local church grow properly from its pages. It stresses the correct Biblical belief, attitude and teachings are for the long haul superior to simply using popular and various methods alone. I have felt this to be one of the best books on my shelf at this time. We all need to utilize various methods for growth, but need to build the proper Biblical teaching as the right foundation for each one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to Basics, May 5, 2006
This review is from: Biblical Church Growth: How You Can Work with God to Build a Faithful Church (Paperback)
Gary McIntosh enters the discussion of church growth at a time when everyone has an idea or knows someone who had an idea that worked. He takes on the premise of formulatic approaches to church growth and posits that it's time for the church to return to the basics. Like so many other things throughout our biblical history, God's Word provides a pattern for church growth. McIntosh walks us through that pattern, giving us tangible processes to employ, while depending on the active, present guidance of the Holy Spirit. A chapter at a time, we are guided through the essential catalytic elements, which when used in consonance with God's plan and His Spirit, will result in Biblical Church Growth. Dr. McIntosh introduces us to the proper or "right" application of the eight "Ps" - premise, priority, process, power, pastor, people, philosophy and plan. The difference between his approach and the multitude of other church growth plans, is that these principles only work when they are properly adjusted for specific settings and are executed in cooperation with the Holy Spirit. McIntosh invites us to find where God is moving and join in His effort. Biblical Church Growth is a clear, concise call to return to the basics of the Great Commission.
